The park markets itself as the inspiration of the Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar, even though James Cameron gave credit to a different park, but it hasn't kept the staff from using it for publicity. The price for the park is pretty steep, but the ticket is good for 3 days. The next day ( Sunday for us) was a day of travel, departing our hotel at 6:30am for the two & 1/2 hr drive to Shanghai, then a 2 hr flight to Wuhan, followed by a 5 hr drive to Yichang. We boarded the ship about 9 pm that evening. Aboard the MS Yangtze 2, we are surrounded by tour groups from Canada, Germany, Taiwan. Indonesia and China. ... ride to Fengjie, then transfer to the hydrofoil which arrived at Yichang at 6pm. Wow, the Lonely Planet seriously had its info wrong in terms of the length of time it takes to get to places. Don't get me wrong, it has been incredibly useful, and at times I would have been lost without it, but I learned quickly not to trust it too much!

In the meantime I was stranded in Wanzhou with nowhere to stay. At the top of one of the hills, I found a hotel (which looked very expensive) but ...

... before making our way to the train station. Adam, David, Caroline and myself firstly went to good ol McDonald's for coffee and a late breakkie before exploring the shops and the park. A local police woman stop us to ask where we were from and we ended up chatting for a while... bless her she offered her phone number in case we wanted to know anything or needed any assistance.
