        Strudel is all forms and flavors is naturally also ubiquitous in Slovenia, as a large puffy meringues. I usually try to avoid dough fried in grease, but after a sample of Flancki at the market in Ljubljana I couldn’t resist a small packet of the crisp, light, powder sugar-covered fried flat dough pieces.

        Combine that all with good beer and lots of good wine and that’s why I left Slovenia significantly chubbier than I entered ...

        Wednesday 3 September was my departure date from Gryon instead of Dornach. It was a fine day for a change, at least until I got to Austria. Riding through the Swiss Alps is always spectacular but the traffic is slow, saturated with cars, trucks and motorbike riders. It took me 7hrs riding to cover 360 km to Būserberg near Bludenz, Austria.

        ... We thought it very unlikely that Ljubljana has another name like Vienna = Wein. Simon stayed with luggage and Susan went to investigate. She came back Yes the train does go to Ljubljana at 18.53 on its way to Dobova but it does not get printed and it goes from Platform 8 which is a slightly out of the way platform. Blood pressure returns to normal. We go over to platform 8 and Simon heads off for some food - not a roll or sandwich - it was like a souvlaki and was very nice ...

        ... begins. The walking tour lasts about 2 1/2 hours with that time spent in the city center. We hear stories about Slovenia and the city of Ljubljana learning about history, legends and local life. The guide was in the past a professor in the University. He is quite knowledge and very good with directing the tour around town. After the tour, I spend some time walking back to the river and finding the street market so I can get some lunch.
