Peru live - 2. Tag

And on the Seventh Day...

... no hurry!

After several hours of wandering the city, I decide to duck into a pub that overlooks the main square - the Plaza des Armas. It provides an excellent vantage point from wyhich to photograph the parade that is being held below...apparently October is a major festival month celebrating local Saints, so there is activity everywhere. The pub also affords the opportunity to have a pint!

I have yet to run into anyone from my group in ...

Ollantaytambo to Socma

... huge area that had many platforms carved in to the granite, above this there was a natural rock formation that appeared to look like a condor, a sacred animal to the Inca's.

This place is so well preserved as are many of the Inca ruins, it is well worth a visit.

Following on from the ruins we were then treated to a visit to a traditional Peruvian house. The first thought when I walked in was "oh my god, how do they live like this?" The room was dark, sooty and ...

... decorated and would not be out of place in the middle of central London. Our table was a bath tub which housed an aquarium covered with glass just to give you an idea! It was a great dinner and fantastic to catch up with mates. We then headed to the highest Irish owned bar in the world called Paddy`s (there is always an Irish pub no matter where you go!) for more drinks with the Norwegians which was great fun, I had to call it a night at ...

... check was Mama Lucia (the grandma) had unexpected eye surgery yesterday! I saw them last night for dinner and when I arrived she was in bed. She had an appointment and the doctor decided to operate right then and there. Her blood pressure shot up and they had to wait til she calmed down.

I saw her this afternoon and she´s doing much better. She can see out of the eye and is feeling better than ...

... staircase you descend a thousand or so steps. Be careful with your knees which will feel the strain by the end of the day. After about an hour of walking through cloudforest you may just be able to see the tin roof of the Trekkers Hostel at Wiñay Wayna, although it probably won’t be for another 2 hours until you arrive. Wiñay Wayna is the last official campsite before Machu Picchu . There is a restaurant where you can purchase drinks and even a well ...

The Inca trail - Part 1

... br>
We decided to rotate the big pack every hour or two hours. What I didn’t expect was that we’d all be fighting for the big pack after not too long.

At this point four days of hiking seemed a little intimidating.

I had read stories on the internet of people not coping very well with the hike and falling behind, and this was only my second multiday trek I’d ever done. The only thing going through my mind was, I don’t want to be the ...
