Buenos Aires

Ah Buenos Aires... the city of all cities in South America (well so i´ve been told...), and what a whirlwind of a week its been!! And when getting here involves an incredibly boring and completely uneventful twenty-three hour bus journey, i suppose things can only get better. Therefore our first few days here involved a whole lot of sleeping to catch up on what we´d missed out on, realising the hostel we were staying at was not really our ´ídeal´ and so needed to find ourselves another place ...

Learning to Tango

Like - food, culture, music, ice cream, tango, everything about it. Dislike - lack of nice quality hostels in Recoletta Do Differently - stay just a touch longer, or start my tango lessons earlier, stay at the Southern House the whole time. Made sure I went to a tango show. Stayed - Recoletta Hostel HI - it was a horrible dorm, the bathroom was disgusting and it reminded me of a mental ward so I left. I may not have given it a chance, but I think so. Milonga Hostel - (Recoletta) I really like...

Upon arrival we got in a taxi and went to the our hostel and got ourselves settled. You would have thought that after being in the country for a matter of days nothing could have happened. Well not much has happened really aside the fact **** eyes here has already lost his passport. Good one ********* the one thing you need to keep safe you go ahead and lose within 2 hours of being in the country. Never mind, the new one arrived the next Friday, I just had to be late for school and hang on fo...

... level. We were not supposed to take photos, but I snapped a few without using my flash, which seemed to upset the lady next to me, because she got the waiter to come and tell me off (just like in school). Luckily I don’t understand Spanish because she then gave me a mouthful too, I’m not sure why. I just replied “Gracias”

(I might add, there were lots of people taking photos with flash).

... Duncan. "OK" said Ben. "Look, there's a big cow outside the restaurant" shrieked Nadine from outside the front door. Duncan donned his camera as Nadine and Ben each licked a nostril of the giant cow after which the trio made their way up to a local english pub for a couple of civilised drinks.

"Oh my God 2 for 1 on Warsteiner" shouted Duncan as he stumbled through the door of the pub
"I'll order 4 just in case the ...

Monday I went to register as a volunteer with a charity who help children in underprivileged areas of Buenos Aires - teaching English, assisting with other schoolwork and generally just providing a safe place for them to go to learn and play.

Tuesday was moving house day and also results day for CELTA, although we'd been told we all passed the grades had to be verified. I was ...

... them greatly for the meal. I told them that if they come to London, they will have a place to stay if they want it. It was an experience that I really enjoyed and that probably this time last year would have taken me way outside my comfort zone. However, now an opportunity like that is something that I know needs to be grasped with both hands or you really miss out on the chance for something amazing. It seems like a very simple experience, but it´s one of the nicest ...

Buenos Aires Last Day

... ourselves to many more movies throughout our stay down south. It's an educational experience! Later we made our way to Confiteria Ideal, perhaps the most famous and historic tango cafe in the city. It has been kept in its original form since the earlier part of the century. To this day, people can gather to have dinner, coffee, and dance the tango here. It turned out that Marie and I were almost the only patrons in this establishment under the ...

Greetings From Buenos Aires

... much needed Air con and a mini bar!!. We walked round Palermo after arriving yesterday, sampled our first Quilmes beer (very cold and much needed) and found the whole area to be very friendly. Its a bit like Islington/upper street (but with sun, and no mention of Ars**al!!!), lots of street cafes, trendy bars and loads of great restaurants, but its mainly used by locals as the tourists go to the central area, so it does feel ...

En el trayecto hasta Brasil nos sirvieron la cena "frango o masa" era la elección (pollo o pasta) y me quedé con los tallarines con salsa de champignones.
