ON the famous east coast!!!!!!!!! Our flight was about 4 hours from Perth to Sydney. The views from the top were amazing. Qantus is a really good airline. The movies you could watch on the plane were awesome. YOu could choose to watch over 20 movies. I watched the 40 year old virgin. It was hilarious. It was sad to say goodbye to Kristens family but it was nice to be on our own again. The weather was super ****** when we arrived. It was kind of raining and was only about 22 C. The weather for...
Sydney, Australia bfaldowskiGreat to hear from everyone and you can send me mails if you would prefer rather than leave comments on the site. First of all, Clodagh let me know that from the top of the Harbour Bridge to the water is 134m and not what I said. At least someone was listening!!! We went out with Gareth and Ali the next day to say thanks for letting us stay with them. Gareth had a few tickets for the Oz jetboat experience on Sydney Harbour. That was a good laugh and we got fairly soaked to say the least. It w...
Sydney, Australia cianotSince last updating we have passed through Canberra for 2 days (more than enough) and then been in Sydney for the last 3 days. Last Wednesday after a 1 hours flight we landed in Canberra, which for a capital city has a very small and quiet airport. In fact everything about Canberra is the same. The first night we had a wander around and it was like a ghost town (but I saw my first posom - just got to find a koala and kangaroo now!). What is even stranger is that there are literally hundreds o...
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia davidb123uk2Hi! Sorry for the delay in updating (and e-mailing, if I owe you one), but it's been an action-packed week and I've had very little internet time. First thing Monday morning I met the Autopia backpacker bus at the Pint on Punt pub near my hostel. The bus was a 21-seater from 1975 or so, and it towed a rickety old trailer containing all of our bags. There were 15 of us on the tour, and our chauffeur to Sydney over the next 3 days was Bernie, who was, as they say, "a character." Bernie looked l...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia easyreadBack in Sydney. Stayed in a spot called Maze backpackers in the middle of town for a few nights. The room was like an oven. A midget German lad was staying in the bunk above me, but there was no ladder for him to get up or down, when he had to go to the toilet in the middle of the night he had to jump off the thing and land on the floor. Funny to watch. St. Paddys day was class. We arrived from Fiji during the day. Just missed most of the parade, but Hyde park had a serious set-up...beer tent...
Sydney, Australia eddieroqWe arrived in Australia after a smooth and comfortable flight. The film on the plane was rubbish but apart from that we couldn't complain. We hadn't pre-booked a room in Sydney so spent some time at the airport getting the lowdown on our options and then caught the bus into the centre of Sydney to find somewhere to stay. We headed for a place called 'The Maze' which was centrally located and close to Chinatown. Unfortunately the place was pretty scummy and we both had to trek across half the ...
Sydney, Australia eve-michaelWe're currently staying at Maze backpackers hostel which is the biggest hostel I've stayed in so far housing something like 500 people. We checked in a couple of nights ago and last night they organised a pub crawl. Ended up wandering around in a mess by the stadium which it turns out is miles away from where we're staying. Pretty sure I passed out at some point when I came round I was looking up at a big tree. Eventually managed to flag a taxi down with the help of some random when I had wor...
Sydney, Australia fiveacesDay 1 It was time to leave the comfort of Kathleen's and head for the bright lights of Sydney. Taking our time to get up, do more laundry, pack and have breakfast we grabbed a lift to the station, said our goodbyes and departed for Central. On arriving, we had a short 3 block walk to our hostel on Pitt street; Nomads Maze backpackers, where we checked in and changed our booking to cancel the three days over Christmas where we would be in Canberra. Being polite, our room was minimalist to say ...
Sydney, Australia gonetilwheneverWell my luck certainly ran out with the Greyhound Coaches last night. The coach left Byron Bay at 21.25 last night 30 minutes late. The driver was a miserable ******* ( only way to describe him ) So no one person to two seats have had on other legs of the journey. Anyway 13 hours and 3 stops later we arrive in Sydney. Was noticeably cooler and overcast on the Tuesday morning, but to get that in context it was probably still in the mid twenty degrees. The hostel was about a 15 minute walk fro...
Sydney, Australia graydominic4Next day, we headed back to Sydney and got ourselves ready for the opera. We put on our best dresses (all of which were buried at the bottom of our rucksacks), brushed our hair (a rarity for me these days), and headed for the Opera House so we could get a nice glass of wine at the Opera Bar before the show. The opera 'Werther' was split into 4 parts, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, with two breaks between the first two acts. To give you just a small snippet of a storyline, Charlotte and We...
