Kuala Lumpur

We got in to KL late last night after a fairly uneventful flight. Was great just to be away really, after all the prep that has gone in to this trip. Rocked up at the hotel and then went straight out for Nasi Goreng at a local eatery. Got up and began the explore. After buying an incredibly overpriced coffee 'o' (Black Iced Coffee) we met a business man who showed us a great and VERY cheap place for brekky and gave us some top tips for the day. Cheers Phil! So first he said we should get a ca...

Kuala Lumpur

25th - 27th Sept 2007 The last 2 days in Phuket were bit of a washout, literally. On Tuesday I had a tour booked to Phang Nga Bay to see James Bond Island (Man with the Golden Gun) and canoing around the bay as well. The weather was - wet! We had lunch on the floating village. Yesterday, Wednesday, was another wet day until around 2pm. I just wandered around Karon village and a last stroll along the beach. Today I flew down to Kuala Lumpur and the sun was shining again. The flight was good an...

Kuala Lumpur - again

3rd to 6th Oct 2007 The last few days I have been in the Cameron Highlands. I decided to have a round of golf on Wed, 3rd - good course with great views. Afterward I walked back to Tanah Rata and had dinner. Bumped into the English guy, Sam, and we had a few beers in the travellers pub - the only drinking place in Tanah Rata. The Aussie guy, Stephen, had left yesterday to go to Thailand. Bumped into another couple in the pub and found out that one knew Sam from earlier on in his travels. Got ...

not a great day...!

Slightly behind now so will do the best I can with 15 minutes left on net to write the past few days! When we first got to Kuala Lumpa it was raining yet again! We went for a KFC with Heather and Ceri, which was gross and the woman messed up my order and then wouldn't give me my money back! Then we went to China Town and I got my Jadore perfume for a bargain- tenner and when I unpackaged it it was GREEN!!! Wasn't happy! Then it poured down with rain again so we went back to the hotel and got ...

Kuala Lumpur

We were staying in the Mayview Glory Hotel, a converted office building that was within 2 min walk from the Puduraya Bas Terminal, where we arrived in KL. The hotel was opposite the Menara Maybank building, famous as one of the best examples of modern Malay architecture that includes traditional (i.e. Islamic) elements into the design. Beside the hotel was Court Hill Ganesh Temple, a tiny place on the street corner that was always busy with Hindu Indian's lighting candles, worshipping or just...

Kuala Lumpur: Shock to the system

... we promptly left and picked up some McVities biscuits from the local shop.

The next day we treated ourselves to a nice breakfast trying to put the cat curry incident behind us. Heading over to the Petronas towers full and happy, we were tempted away by a huge, even more amazing shopping mall. Linked with the Petronas Towers, the mall comprised of 7 floors of designer brands and lots of lovely and surprisingly cheap restaurents. We spent ...

... system is enviably efficient, although I think the other key descriptor here is 'new'. I'm not sure that many pieces of large public transport infrastructure in Australia's major cities could be similarly described.

Even newer was my hostel (just five weeks old), and one of the best I've ever stayed in, located in the heart (or more probably the left hamstring) of Little India, a locale that really explains itself. My first evening was ...

WELCOME IN MALAYSIA

The Return of the Backpackers

... this sense of adventure and ease for a such a long time, but it has always been there. I felt the reality of life now as it was, and it was beautiful. Even the craziness of KL was beautiful. The nature of Malaysia was beautiful, the way of life in the Cameron Highlands, and the Malaysian people. The company and friends I had made were all part of the unique experience I had in this country and a magnificant part of my journey. It was also nice to be amongst real ...

Lebih Beach

After sleeping in a little bit in my favorite room and on my favorite mattress, I was happy to be back at home. I felt so comfortable here and it really feels like I belong here. I've definitely found my place. I did a few things like get all my laundry together (and actually took it to a place) and then Suzanne, Franzi, and I headed out to go explore a new beach, Lebih Beach. I guess there was a place with a pool overlooking the ocean, so we ...
