The mother of all waterfalls

The weather is hot, humid and sticky. With intermittent hammerings of rain.
Puerto Iguazu itself is a dusty/muddy hole with nothing to do.

However, the Iguazu Falls are -awesome-. Unlike some things that you expect to be amazing but end up being merely ok, they did exceed my expectation.

The Argentine side is developed with variety of trails through the jungle and suspended walkways to give better views of the falls, to the point of being able to stand on the very edge of Gar...

Iguazu falls: so that's where all the rain went!

Our journey to Iguazu was somewhat marred by a feeling of having been taken for a ride. The tourist information office in San Ignacio was staffed by a very personable young man who explained that he was able to make bookings on the bus up to the falls, so we took him up. Having handed over the money we had a nagging thought that we had paid more than we had expected and our tickets did not seem to have seat reservations. When we checked, it was clear that the tickets we had were no more than ...

abound to negative ions

I headed to Iguazu on the best bus possible. Springing an extra u$a15 got me a first class sleeper seat, that folds all the way down to 180degrees. Best night of sleep thus far. At the end of the night, after dinner, they pop in Ghosts of Girlfriends past, and the server (dresed in uniform) comes over and asks if I would like whiskey or chanpagne?? I can not help but laugh, with such princess service.

17 hours later, we arrive at Puerto Iguazu, as I exit the bus i see a RedSox hat on a...

Passion:a potent mixture of anger and energy

Puerto Iguazu really pours out its passion. The legend goes as follows: A warrior was running off down river with a beautiful girl. Out of jealousy the water God opened up its fury and collapsed the river, resulting in 250 waterfalls and sent the eloping couple down the falls. The God turns the young girl into a rock and the warrior into a tree on the riverbank - which forever will overlook the rock.

mariposas y mas mariposas

Butterflies flitter around all over, creating a spectacular speckling of color all throughout the park. Apparently, they are attracted to the salt in our sweat. Landing on our feet, heads, hands, they come along for the ride....

They keep together as a family, all colors, sizes and breeds...much like our new family we have come to form. We eat together, get caught in the rain together, take boat rides together, and most of all LAUGH! Laughing and having too much fun and gettting too ti...

grande catarata (HUGE waterfall)

Eleanor Roosevelt said it better than I can..."Poor Niagara!" My pics donīt really do Iguazu Falls justice - like other gigantic natural wonders - you have to see it with your own eyes to appreciate. Arrived at the National Park and an 8km ride through the jungle. Didnīt really see any animals as it was late morning and already hot. The animals are smarter than people and were probably in a shady spot taking a nap =) Then the boat portion of the tour....my absolute favorite part! The boats ar...

... rank new $2 and $5 notes. When asked if there any restrictions on the condition of the material Carlos responded enthusiastically,

“Absolut ely not. The raunchier the better. Holes – they make it aerodynamic. Stains – they represent national pride. Wrinkles and curious smells – pleasant reminders of your grandmother. Everybody wins.”

He said it was too early to comment on the rumours that all coins would soon be replaced by kidney stones and dice.

Started walking around but the heat was extreme and within half an hour of being here I didnt feel to good... ... of buses leaving, they are that close together they might just as well be a train.
Because of the distances, my one way journey is nearly 1300km, the buses seem to travel over night. They are extremely comfortable with recliners, plenty of legroom and airline style meals.
It is dark when we leave but I watch BA disappear before getting my head down for the night.

We love U Iguazu!!!!

... if you go to Iguazu. The option we chose was $75 pesos and it is just marvelous. So anyway we got on the boat and we were already excited. Kira had decided to stay under the protection of her poncho and option I had considered but I just didn't feel like taking of my life jacket putting on my poncho and putting my jacket on again. So Viejo (Carlos) and I went poncho free and quickly realized why one guy had got on the boat in nothing but some swim trunks.

Waterfall!!

Its weeks since we were actually here, hopefully I havent forgotten too much!

We had a really **** overnight bus from Florianopolis to Foz du Iguazu - the town on the Brazilian side of the falls. It was from the 1960's so there was absolutely none of the luxuries we had on the previous ride. We headed straight to our hostel on the Argentinian side, crossing the border and getting another ...

Most useful Portuguese phrase: 'Nao obrigado'. (No thanks). To the necklace sellers in the streets of Salvador that didn't leave you alone for 5 seconds!

Feels like I´m back in the jungle

Got in at about 4:30pm, found a hostel conveniently located just across from the bus terminal. Immediately felt the difference in heat and humidity not just in Iguazú, but also when the bus made a stop in Posadas. Disappointed with the food on the bus, we quickly shopped for some groceries, and chilled the ...
