Calle 405 El Calafate, Province of Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina, 54-2902-493899
At 4am we arrived in Corrientes and I took my stuff, switched to downstairs, and slept nicely for three or four hours in my big arm-chair. The rest of the journey was fairly uneventful, and I eventually arrived in Puerto Iguazu bus terminal at 1pm.
My hostel, the Marcopolo Inn was over the street so I checked in, was delighted at the smart and professional look of the place in addition to the two very fit girls on reception, who incidentally, it turns out, are sisters, and made my way t...
Arrived after a 19 hour bus journey to El Calfate. The bus was bloody freezing and we couldn´t sleep a wink. Hilario though as for the first hour there was a group game of bingo on the bus. Had a 3 hour stop over in Rio Gallegos but finally arrived at about 5 that evening. The hostel was lovely and we chilled there for the night just playing pool and as all of the cash machines in the whole town were out of cash we went on a rampage in the supermarket using our card and made the most lush spa...
El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina becca.dohertyWe awake early for yet another marathon bus journey (27 hours) from Salta in the far northwest to Iguazu in the far north-east of Argentina. We have to change buses after 4 hours in Tucuman so we were a little surprised to arrive there an hour early. We and some of the other passengers were even more surprised to look at the clocks in the bus station only to find that sometime during mid-morning time had moved on by an extra hour! Nice of the authorities to let us know! According to the guide...
Bariloche, Argentina coleauxvWe traveled from Buenos Aires to Iguacu by bus and this time got to try out Super Cama. This is where there are only 6 seats downstairs and they all recline into full flat beds. With the red wine flowing and as comfortable as if you were lounging on your sofa at home the 18hour journey flew by. We arrived early afternoon feeling refreshed and ready to see the falls. What we weren't ready for was the intense searing heat as we stepped off the bus and it only intensified as the day wore on, rea...
El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina jhoekstra79JIM Traveling on long distance buses in Patagonia is a lot like a Scooby Doo esq cartoon.... To save precious animation time and money during chase scenes the animators would use 3 background still frames, for example, one plain wall with a plant pot, one plain wall with a watercolor an plain wall with a door to give the impression that Shaggy and his mute, comedy canine friend were running at speed from the ghost (or fair ground owner in disguise) they would alternate these backgrounds at hi...
El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina jimanddanSorry, I havent really had time to make these entries, so Im gonna fill you in with what I wrote in my journal. WARNING - I took the Marga-Taqsa bus from Bariloche to Calafate. It was 29 hours and, to keep my blog on the upside, I will not talk about all the problems we had on the bus. Needless to say it was the bus ride from hell, and if there is any other way for you to get to Calafate, take it! Now on to the good stuff! I came into Calafate at 10pm on the 15th. Whenever you come into a bus...
El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina mcgeeismEl Calafate, Santa Cruz is known as the capital of glaciers. Although the city of Calafate is beautiful, the real beauty lies in El Chalten. In Calafate you can do ice trakking activities and/or see the glaciers of the northern side of the glacier national park. Calafate functions as a portal, a system of transportaion to and from other worth wild destinations in patagonia. The hostels in Calafate are very nice. I stayed at Marcopolo the first night I arrived, spent the next night in el Chalt...
El Calafate, Argentina perezc4
... a room with a stranded bicyclist from Brazil named Thiago. Later a couple who had been riding on a motorcycle came in. The wind had wiped them out, but they were okay. Outside, the wind was so strong it was difficult to walk in it. I found out that it was in fact 60 to 70 mph. All I can say is, thank God I hadn't been on a dirt road. The next day I got up early, hopefully to get over the last 10 miles of gravel road before the wind picked up again ...
