Sailing the Whitsundays

We arrived into Airlie Beach at about midday on Tuesday. We found a hostel that had camp sites called Magnum's. It was right on the main strip. Once we'd checked in and had some lunch we went for a bit of a stroll. We found that we were right across the road from the lagoon which is surrounded by grass and sandy areas. The sun was out and therefore so were many sunbathers too. We went back to the car and I got into my swim gear and headed back to the lagoon with my book while Alan hit the int...

Cruising the Whitsundays.

Note - the Photos... are now here ----- Hi fellow blogees. Welcome back to the next episode in this saga. Coming up - the most amazing beach in the world, how to find out the colour of adrenaline, and exactly how far apart two neighbouring cities in Australia actually are when you are limited to 100kph in a car and not 800 or so in a plane. The Magnums Hostel (not YHA as written previously) in Airlie beach is rather nice . Set up on a boardwalk of bars and clubs, you walk back into the rainfo...

Koala Encounter

Escaping Townsville I took the ferry over to Magnetic Island being sprayed by sea water at the back most of the way there feeling refreshed and wide awake on my arrival to then spend the next few hours hardly moving from the side of the hostel pool. The excuse for this was to do the sensible thing and wait for the afternoon heat to die down somewhat before venturing out on one of the many walks around the island and I hate to argue with recommended medical advice. The Magnums hostel here was ...

We arrived in Airlie beach, On Friday (8th) afternoon, after another good coach journey and went straight to Magnums where we got two free nights accomodation with our Whitsundays/Frazer Island package. Our next two days we spent sunbathing around and swimming in the lagoon, topping up our tans ready for three days at sea. After packing our 'sunnies and swimmers' (sunglasses and bikinis) we boarded 'Romance' at 8pm on Monday 11th ready for 3 days & 3 nights sailing around The Whitsunday I...

Neil's birthday

Well, here we are in Airlie Beach. The hostel is pretty cool, we treated ourselves to a double room which has got a fridge and some crockery in it so we can have a cheap breakfast and lunch in our room. The hostel seems to be in the middle of the rainforest which is pretty cool, especially when it rains (which we've had quite a bit of since we've been here!!) Airlie Beach is quite nice, although it is essentially a stopoff point between here and the Whitsundays. There's the Airlie Lagoon (an ...

Airlie Beach - 24 hour party people

There are only a handful of things to do on a 13 hour overnight bus journey up the east coast of Australia; in fact, realistically there are only two, namely sleeping and listening to your Ipod. The latter of these is difficult to maintain for the entire journey because of the battery life and the former is near on impossible if you sit near the toilet that stinks. I did just that, as it was the only seat spare that I could spread out over two seats to try and sleep in. Also, it gets even har...

The Whitsundays

We got a 19 hour train up to Airlie beach from Caboolture. It wasn’t as bad as we had expected but we were surrounded by 4 smelly women and as it was allocated seating we couldn’t move anywhere else!! We arrived to Airlie Beach at 5am and sat in McDonalds for an hour before we could check into our hostel at 6am. After checking in we took advantage of the early cool weather and went for a walk around the town. We went for a nice swim in the lagoon which was surprisingly busy for th...

Airlie beach and Whitsunday Islands

So we left mission beach in the morning and arrived in the early afternoon. We checked into the YHA hostel where we stayed with two other blokes who were English and ok. The nighlife was ok and we had a good time on my birthday which we celebrated in some pubs and clubs. Then the next day we went on a day trip to the Whitsunday Islands. We visited some lovely beaches and saw some beautiful areas on the Islands. The boat was good fun and we had a lovely buffet for lunch and did a small walk to...
