Ruins, Sunshine and Surprise more Walking

There was so much to see in Rome and we didn't even get to all of the things we wanted to do. What we did get to do was amazing and we truly enjoyed this city and will definately return someday. Some of the things we saw were - the Vatican, the Colloseum, the Forum, the Pantheonm, the Capuchin Crypt. We also took a day trip to Pompei as we ran out of time to do this when we were staying in Campagna. There was so much to enjoy here and we haven't had the time to update. We will have to finish ...

Trip to Rome! (Part I)

I'm going to break this into two parts...Thursday night/Friday; and Saturday/Sunday morning. I don't have the attention span or patience to sit here and document this whole thing at once. For those of you itching for a happy ending...I'm currently back in Valladolid, safe and sound.

We started the trip with a nice long three hour train ride on Thursday afternoon. I can't even remember the last time I was on a train, so it was kind of a cool thing to do. The processing of tickets was a ...

Trip to Rome! (Part II)

Day 2 started off a little later than the first day. We decided that since we had less to do, we'd wake up at 8:30 and have a more leisurely morning. We knocked down a fair amount of croissants again at the breakfast buffet. I think the Italian waiters all had their American stereotypes confirmed by us.....ohhhhhhh well. We also had to shift rooms, as we all were terrible at math and could not count to three (the number of nights we NEEDED in the hostel). Luckily, it was fairly simple.

Rome

Day 43: Arrived from Malaga around midnight and was still feeling very ill so went straight to bed.
Day 44: Spent the entire day in bed with as I still had a fever and every muscle in my body was aching.
Day 45: Spent the day with a guy from brazil. Went down to the Colosseum and spent a few hours in the area. We then went to the Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, the forum, and piazza di venezia. Took it easy in the evening as I was still not feeling to hot.
Day 46: Went to the Vatican and...

My Cheap community hostel experience, as seen in less than a 48 -hour period living as a member of a cohabitation group center for world travelers! A representative of Argentina, Sweden, France, Chile, Brazil, USA, Canada, Australia, Ethiopia, Norway, Germany, Korea, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Mexico, have all crossed by path at the M&J Hostel in Rome. Only in a cheap hostel will you find such a collection of diversity, which is good for spreading world peace through the 'gmail' and...

When in Rome...!

... 2 in Rome we headed for the Vatican City to visit the pope haha. We arrived at the Vatican using our bus pass still and took some pictures of where the pope is. Then we headed over to the Vatican Museum where we wanted to see the Sisteen Chapel and the works of Michelangelo. The museum is the second largest museum in the world which I had no idea...there were tons of paintings and beautfiul rooms with painted ceilings...they ...

A day gone full circle

... make the best of it. I will stay one night then take off. I go in the bathroom and it is GROSS!!!! Dirty, wey, ew!! All I did was wet my hair and splash some water on myself, then I got ready to go explore. Well, i come downstairs and the guy says he has bad news. The place is fully booked so I can't stay. I am fighting tears at this point because I am hungry, dehydrated and tired, not to mention there are no other places available. I looked. So I ask him ...

... to the coastline leaving a narrow green strip frequented by campers. We played on the beach for a couple of hours and swam as a relief from the very hot daytime temperature but Coss never showed up. This generated more racial comments from Eric as predicted and if Coss'ears were burning that day that was probably why he did not show up. The Brits needed to visit Belgrade the capital of Yugoslavia which was inland from the coast. I felt like a break from Eric's 'humour' so I decided to ...

Off to the Vatican...again!

... to go to the Time Elevator, a 45 minute, four-dimensional multimedia experience covering the 3000 years of Roman history. Sitting in seats that move with the action and watching 3 screens, it began with a time machine transporting you to the time of the legend of the creation of Rome and ended with spectacular photos of present day. It helped to solidify all that we had seen and experienced while in Rome. Afterwards we returned to ...

Tuesday 16th May 2000 Capri

... thought to head off for Grotto Azura, which a local guide had advised that morning, that we leave until after 3.00 pm when there were less crowds. Guess what? We left it a little too late. They close the Grotto at 5.00 pm, so you need to be on the water by 4.00 at the latest (that's from Anacapri), and probably by 3.00 pm, from Capri itself. Who cares, we had a fabulous day on Capri, largely avoiding the crowds. Then again, there was the bus trip back from ...
