I had already stayed at Lybeer twice before and I must say: this was the best time! The renovations have had a very positive impact on the overal look & feel of the place. Still not finished (mid-2013) but the new rooms really look amazing, I don't know of any other hostel with such nice rooms. They told me the old kitchen is going to be replaced soon as well. People seem to be having problems with the staircase but you have to be aware of the fact that you're staying in the city centre of medieval Bruges! This is how ALL stairs in houses in the city centre look like. So get over it people! I posted some pics of the new rooms, they're a 100% different compared to how the place looked just a few months back. Would definitely stay here again, staff is also very nice and welcoming and they are really working hard to turn this building into a beauty so give them a break!

Don't worry a bit about the renovations. The beds and rooms are clean and the common room a great place to hang out

I made it to Brugge late in the afternoon yesterday (August 2nd) and after getting my bearings headed off towards my hostel. I hadn't realized how small of a town Brugge is, but it's quite a nice contrast coming from Paris.

I wandered around after settling in a bit at my hostel (and fighting with my phone which seems to be having some …

It took about three steps onto the cobblestone streets of Bruges to realize $10 H&M ballet flats may have not been the best choice for the 40 degree temps and unyielding rain. Then again, I wouldn't recommend venturing out without a coat either, but with less than a week until I head home, I can't justify spending what little money I have on …

We woke up early, had the 4 euro breaky at hostel, packed lunch, walked to the Belfry and Chrissy met us there. She walked us to the car where Axel was waiting. It was a pleasant surprise to discover they drove a brand new Audi A6. It was so shiny and fancy and it even had pull-up window blinds.

We drove through flat farmland and water …

After staying up until 2am last night, we were keen to sleep-in this morning.

Luke, Sayaka, Gloria and two other roommates we met that morning (guys from America who are studying in Spain) all went down and had breakfast at the Hostel. I was so excited they had milo cereal!

We ambled around that morning and talked with people …

    In Bruges

We caught the train from Brussels with no problems. When we emerged out of the station in Bruges, there were a bunch of big temporary buildings erected. I soon caught on that a Disney ice sculpture exhibition was in there. I really wanted to go but Joanna didn't so I just popped in for fifteen minutes by myself. The ice sculptures were larger than …
