Costa Rica

My final entry is from the endlessly beautiful and predictably sunny Pacific coast. (How disappointing the Caribbean has been......) This time that of Costa Rica. Costa Rica is an absolute must if doing Central America - this is clear staightaway. It has the most colourful and varied flora and fauna I have seen on the whole trip... and I stayed just in one place. Yep, I am calling it a day. Katy, along with the parents and Harvey, 'did' Costa Rica properly. I headed for a beach for 10 days wi...

Hanging with the Hippies

After a sad goodbye to my besties from back home, I hit the road again. This time, I was headed to Montezuma to hook up with a friend who I met previously in Boquete, Panama...JAIME! I arrived on the late bus and hoofed it up a hella-steep set of stairs to the reception for Luna Llena. I had all my bags including my daypack, which I now refer to as the "milk bag" since I managed to dump an entire box of milk into it in transit. That is another story. So...I made it up to the hostel and got si...

... d gone a few feet further I'd have been in the drink!

Hotel was cheap because it had no windows maybe, just screened in orifices that admitted no bugs but plenty of noise.

Enjoyed a great foccacia bread at the biggest hotel in town, right on the river - the Italians that formerly had El Vago now work there. Not too pricey either.

Had breakfast at the Mexican - great to have chorizo again. Had a good chat about Mexico and its beer - we're in ...

... to get to the free beach access and aa slightly shorter one returning from the main park entrance which was closer to the action - worth investing 2-3 bucks each way on a taxi.

The Whales Tail, a rocky promontory shaped as described, was supposedly good for snorkelling but trying to get to the outside edge was risky on the large expanse of jagged rock, yet alone trying to enter in all that surge - you would need fins with booties and to be brave or stupid ...

... It was really a shame! I suppose they cannot do much about stupid people loosing shoes and throwing garbage in the ocean, but perhaps they should try to clean it up, although it will be a never-ending task.

Friday was my last day here. There has been a larger influx of people here due to the Montezuma Film Festival, but no celebrity sightings, though. I went to Ylang Ylang again and spent several hours by the pool. It was overcasted, so I must admit I ...

Monkeys, a waterfall and a...skunk?

So today marks the 2 month anniversary of my departure from the states and the only thing I can say about that is that it has flown by. I can't believe I've been gone for 8 weeks...but I guess time flies when you're having fun, right?

Montezuma turned out to be alright...much too expensive for our taste, but we got to see some cool stuff while we were there, so I appreciate the experience. Thursday turned out to be a beautiful sunny day ...

San Isidro-- Driving the Moutain of Death

After dropping Bev off at the airport we headed straight out of town. Of course this took us a good hour due to traffic and the inability to get proper directions! The map I we had purchased at a hotel the day when we came into the country was supposedly up-to-date, but so far I had counted around 10 mistakes. The San Jose portion was no different. By the time we got out of the city it was around 3 PM so we only had a few hours of daylight left and we still had to go ...
