Cowboy Hats and Gallo Pinto
We headed off the 'gringo trail' and landed up in Esteli, a green, hilly farming area in northern Nica. Although the city was not the most beautiful, it still had character with some of the best street food of the trip (Gallo Pinto, pork skewers, Nica tacos, fudge) and parades of campinsinos in cowboy hats and boots.

Estelí: cowboy town and trendy cafe in a park
Estelí gave us a very nice change of scenery and showed us a very different side of Nicaragua. Closer to all the coffee plantations, it's real cowboy country up here. Many men on the bus were carrying guns in their pants.
Estelí has lots of cool street art on the walls. It also has many shops selling all the cowboys stuff.

Our whirlwind trip of Nicaragua continued with a visit to Esteli. The town itself is quite non-descript and has nothing to really set it apart from the other towns we have visited. However, Esteli is a large producer of Cigars and there are over 200 Cigar producing factories in the town.
