Lucerne Backpackers Hostel

Day 38: Jenna Del and I slept in and took our time in getting ready. We each bought a Swiss watch on the way to the train station. I was very happy with mine. Cost me 129Fr, about $85. We had just missed the train to Luzern, so we had to wait over an hour to catch the 14.19. Luckily, the ride was only 90 minutes or so. The views, of course, were stunning. Our hostel here has been quite nice, we have a good view of the water and it's only a few minutes' walk to the main sights. While Tow slept off his sickness, Deutsch, Mich and I had a walk around town. We decided to make our stop in Switzerland quick to save time for other places (and because it's damn expensive). We're staying in Luzern (Lucerne) all 3 nights and taking day trips by train to Bern and Zurich. Our second day in Switzerland we took a train to Bern, the Capital City. After finally getting around to stopping at a good Internet Café to catch up on emails and blogs we headed over to the old town. There are tonnes of cool shops there, neat fountains (see the Ogre Fountain) and all sorts of flags hanging off the building. On our third day in Switzerland we took a train to Zurich for a day trip. The city offers free bike rentals if you leave a deposit, so we took them up on the offer. Zurich is quite a busy city so learning to bike with the flow of traffic took a bit of getting use to, but it was a fun way to see the city. Switzerland, what can I say. I have been asked so many times on my trip what my favorite place has been. I have been on the road now for close to 5 months and there are so many to choose from. After trying to find somewhere to stay in Zurich and finding nothing reasonably priced, we opted to stay in Lucerne about an hour away and just do a day trip into Zurich.
