Day 38: Jenna Del and I slept in and took our time in getting ready. We each bought a Swiss watch on the way to the train station. I was very happy with mine. Cost me 129Fr, about $85. We had just missed the train to Luzern, so we had to wait over an hour to catch the 14.19. Luckily, the ride was only 90 minutes or so. The views, of course, were stunning. We arrived in Luzern, a much bigger town with its own unique attraction. A beautiful lake lined with sailboats represented its centerpiece....
Lucerne, Switzerland chet88 Arrival in Lucerne
Our hostel here has been quite nice, we have a good view of the water and it's only a few minutes' walk to the main sights. While Tow slept off his sickness, Deutsch, Mich and I had a walk around town. We checked out the Chapel Bridge, an old wooden bridge that's about 800 years old, and saw a few shops of interest, including a bakery where all the bread was shaped to look like people. The Lion Monument is claimed to be one of the most famous sights in the ...
We decided to make our stop in Switzerland quick to save time for other places (and because it's damn expensive). We're staying in Luzern (Lucerne) all 3 nights and taking day trips by train to Bern and Zurich. Luzern is still pretty expensive, but at least they have a cheap back packers hostel right by the lake ... Luzern is also very beautiful. We spent our first night there just getting accustomed to our surroundings and walking around the old town a bit. Our first meal at a Café ($60 for ...
Lucerne, Lucerne, Switzerland josh.lambdenOur second day in Switzerland we took a train to Bern, the Capital City. After finally getting around to stopping at a good Internet Café to catch up on emails and blogs we headed over to the old town. There are tonnes of cool shops there, neat fountains (see the Ogre Fountain) and all sorts of flags hanging off the building. We went down to the Cathedral to have our lunch looking over the river and then went to the Einstein Museum. It wasn't a very big museum, but was reasonably interesting ...
Bern, Bern, Switzerland josh.lambdenOn our third day in Switzerland we took a train to Zurich for a day trip. The city offers free bike rentals if you leave a deposit, so we took them up on the offer. Zurich is quite a busy city so learning to bike with the flow of traffic took a bit of getting use to, but it was a fun way to see the city. We biked down the main road on either side of the river, checked out the Churches as well as the swimming / sunbathing area of the river before finding a place to have lunch. There I was appr...
Zurich, Switzerland josh.lambden Day 1 – Monday 14th September – We arrived in Lucerne in the early evening after enjoying another scenic train ride through the mountains of Switzerland. It is so pretty!
We checked in at reception in our hostel and headed up to our room where we quickly realized we had been spoiled in our Interlaken hostel. Our room could only be described as a notch above a jail cell! The shared areas were quite nice and clean and modern, but the room was horrible! It consisted of two sin...
Well, it has been a few days now, and I am still alive and well here in Europe. The flight in was long and arduous, but I survived, and eventually found myself in Zurich, Swizterland! The hostel I stayed at wasn´t the nicest one int he world, however, even though I only paid for a dorm room, there was no one else in the room with me, so I essentially got a single for the price of a dorm room! Zurich was beautiful, even though the weather was not. The public transportation system in the city i...
Lucerne, Lucerne, Switzerland mdfarjrSwitzerland, what can I say. I have been asked so many times on my trip what my favorite place has been. I have been on the road now for close to 5 months and there are so many to choose from. Cities, towns, villages and countries. If you asked me 2 weeks ago I would have said 100 percent Ireland and Germany with a little Croatia thrown in there. I now have to readjust my thinking because Swtizerland is definally top 3. I left Verona with a tag a long. Well I asked him to come, Manny from Per...

After trying to find somewhere to stay in Zurich and finding nothing reasonably priced, we opted to stay in Lucerne about an hour away and just do a day trip into Zurich. Lucerne was really nice, we enjoyed our last few days in Europe and managed to do just a bit more walking.Being another smaller town, we were able to walk around most of it in a day - the old town was built on a river along with an old covered bridge built in the 14th century that had been almost burnt down a...
... due to high winds. So we headed into town for the morning and decided to visit the mountain after lunch.
We cruised around Lucerne for the morning, checking out the expensive Rolex watches, a few landmark squares and churches, went across some famous bridges...cant quite remember the names of them at the moment.
We went to lunch at the Statdkellar Restaurant where we indulged in ...
