... we got back to mürren township we went into the supermarket and bought some lunch and I bought a shot glass souvenir which has the mountains on it. We went back to Lara's holiday house and ate lunch in the sun, with the Swiss alps staring at us right off the balcony! Was such a stunning view as the weather was so nice! I had arranged earlier that I was going to do a paraglide through the alps, so as it was approaching 2.30pm we packed up ...

... vehicles. On the other side of town we caught the train to Grutschalp above Lauterbrunnen and transferred to the cable car into the town centre.
Kat and Mark joined us for dinner, which was a full turkey and trimmings meal in celebration of the upcoming new year. JJ proved that he is on the mend by exercising his arm with the toys we had in the crackers!
We are expecting fireworks and church bells at midnight so we are looking forward to the new year ...

... and sure enough, they rented hiking boots! The four of us had opted to not bring hiking boots on our trip, they took too much room and we couldn't spare that. With the rainy weather, we were concerned about our feet getting really wet so Dar, Don, Cindy and I came out with rented hiking boots...we were now prepared for anything that came our way!

... and after a train ride, then a gondola, then a narrow gauge railway ride, we finally reached our destination, Mürren. We chose it specifically because it's unreachable by public roads and therefore requires a little more effort to get to. The town is perched on a cliff at an elevation above 5,413 feet, has a tiny population of 450 and views of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau mountains. It is simultaneously low key and spectacular.

... nights there. And we are not going to the most popular place to see the Matterhorn. Instead we are headed for the little mountain town of Murren. Its just south of Interlaken up one of the mountain valleys. Along the rails we can only see the low lands. Clouds pretty much fill the sky in most places.
