... vehicles. On the other side of town we caught the train to Grutschalp above Lauterbrunnen and transferred to the cable car into the town centre.
Kat and Mark joined us for dinner, which was a full turkey and trimmings meal in celebration of the upcoming new year. JJ proved that he is on the mend by exercising his arm with the toys we had in the crackers!
We are expecting fireworks and church bells at midnight so we are looking forward to the new year ...

... the next mountain is the Eiger (Ogre). The local myth is that the Ogre is trying to get the Young girl but the Monk is guarding her. Another tidbit of information is that the Eiger's north face was not scaled until 1933 by a couple of German fellows. Hitler gave them a signed picture of himself to say thank you!

When we came out of the waterfall, we strolled to Lauterbrennen, the city. On our way we watched numerous...maybe 6 to 8 ...

We arrived in Stetchelberg around 6:00. The view coming into the Lauterbrunner Valley was incredible. It had snowed last night and this morning. Murren got about 6 inches of snow but it didn't last in town. The Alps were covered in snow. We lucked out that the clouds lifted for our arrival. Check out the photos.

By the time we finish eating and get packed to hike there is a little bit of clearing across the valley. Within 15 minutes as we start the hike there is some reasonably good clearing and the sun shows through in spots. I had a chance to take a few photos of the mountains before the clouds moved back in. ... on (with many others, so no room left) and told us that the first bus from the Chalet had already left with Jon and the boys on board. Then it was off up the valley and to Stechelberg were we just missed the gondola so we waited for ten minutes until it returned. Then off up the mountain to Gimmelwald where we changed gondolas and went off up to Murren. At Murren we again changed gondolas and headed off to Birg where Jon was waiting.
