10 Domain Road Whakatane, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand
We set off today (Good Friday) on our 5 day Easter break and stopped off first at Karangehape Gorge and saw the remains of the Woodstock Battery. Next we stopped of at Waihi Beach and then Kohiawa Beach were we could see Moutohora (Whale) Island in the distance. Finally we stopped off at Ohope Beach Whakatane. We then checked into the Alton Lodge Motel www.altonlodge.co.nz which we had booked to stay for 2 days. The owner Lyn was lovely ...
Whakatane, North Island, New Zealand adventuretime... We rode a raft through the most densely packed passages, and it looked like a Milky Way of glow worms. It was breathtaking. The next day was a free day and many of us decided to go blackwater rafting. This was a real adventure, although as it turns out it doesn't actually involve any rafts. Our guides, Brydie and Jah, got us suited up in wet suits, wet suit jackets, helmets, harnesses and boots. We practiced rapelling, which they call abseiling ...
Whakatane, North Island, New Zealand schwate... walking towards the third and latest active crater, over the desolate landscape which is a mix of steam mounds (which can collapse if you walk on them), fine ash, clinker like scoria, hardened volcanic layers, which have streams eroded through them and large rock mounds. The air is full of a pungent sulphur smell (bad eggs), which thankfully is kept tolerable by the wind blowing it away from us. Everywhere there are clouds of steam with concentrated yellow ...
Whakatane, North Island, New Zealand harryandnorah... the poi around. After our lesson, the guys came back in and did their Haka for us, and after we performed with the poi. Talk about embarrassing! Ha! The Maori were probably laughing us retarted Pakeha. (White people). In between learning the dance and performing we had some time to kill and the girls asked us if we had anything from our culture to share with them... any dances, etc. I said that I wished I have remembered any line dancing that I had ever learned. That would ...
Opotiki, New Zealand cb_goes_again... country is made up of them. Its hilly as and the roads dont ever go straight, or flat for that matter. Always up, down, left or right. Anyways, tangent... We had some mexican food...i could finally eat again, and then went back to the motel with our favorite ice cream. But...we watched the wicker man, which really ruined my night. If you want your night ruined by the lamest ...
Whakatane, New Zealand baresoulsurfer... an hour drive through the gorge, the highway (paved this time) jumped up to the coast and passed through several summer holiday towns. It then rose back up sharply to a hill that sits high above the Bay of Plenty. A lookout provides a view of one of the islands off the coast: Whakaari or White Island. Whakaari is not called White Island because it is white. It is called White Island because of the smoke that rises from the tiny island. That's ...
Whakatane, New Zealand hbomb1... dagen had ik er geen last van, maar sinds vrijdag en gisteren... Aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!
