    sometimes I forget I'm writing this blog...

    so somehow, we have been here for 7 months already... unbelievable really. we are both great and enjoying our new home; between squash, hiking, mountain biking (newest obsession), visitors, moving and work we have been keeping out of trouble... well, mostly; I'm only human.

We paid and that was it I was committed so with the most unusual boarding card ever ( a large metal hoop ) and we never actually worked out what it was for, we wandered over to the big bronze boat. Whakatane is on a river and the river runs into the Pacific , there is a long sand spit separating the river from the sea.     ... us on that map! ) then we saw the signs for Awakeri Hot springs so we pulled in. Again we thought that it might be a clearing in the woods with hot pools and mud bubbling away. However, it seemed to be a camp site, but a very upmarket one. We spoke to the girl in the office/ shop who said we were welcome to walk to the springs to have a look. We found out later that there was an entrance fee but as we didn't iffer to pay she didn't ask for any money. ...

    After making coffee, we settled the bill, loaded the car and set of for Whakatana from where we would board a boat to take us to the active volcanic White Island. It felt good to again be driving together along the near empty roads. Initially we headed east and then turned right along the graphically titled "Thermal Explorer" highway.
