Finally onto Roma...

We know... a second update in just one day... that is what 30 free minutes of Internet can do! It was nice to take a morning train to Roma, since the overnight train was not so fun for Anna... Andrea slept great, and Anna watched her sleep. Not in a creepy way. We got here and found our hostel, no problem. Then we walked around for a few hours and have already seen the Coliseum, St. Maria Cathedral, Piazza de something... and we found the best pastry shop! It was only 1 € for so many of ...

When in Rome?....

Hey Guy, Just a short one as it has been a massive day of travelling. We left Nice at 10:05 this morning and were on the train until about 8:30pm tonight. There was a stopover in Genova, as the line mostly ran along the coast there was alot of look at as the day went on! We got into Rome and found our hostel with relative ease, and the facilities are clean and the people friendly.. after a shower.. I almost feel human. We're just going to grab some food for dinner, and then probably go to sle...

The Great Roman Adventure.

Hey Everyone, Its been a good time in Rome so far, with yesterday being quite a packed day. Its way too hot here at the moment, and the tourist bus company that we use to get across the city doesn't have airconditioning (its all part of the experience though right?). Yesterday we got up early, had some breakfast at the hostel and then found ourselves a double decker bus that would drive us round the city. Rome really is quite amazing, with sculptures, interesting architechture, or areas of hi...

We made it to Venice without any major problems although two days on a train is certainly a very long time, but breaking it up with a night in Nice really helped a lot. It was amazing getting off the train in Venice and it was the first place that truely took my breath away the second I saw it. As soon as we walked out of the train station we were on one of the canals and had to take a water bus to get to our bed and breakfast there. All of the buildings were exactly how I imagined them and t...

Yes I made it to Rome, safely and soundly, as planned Wed. Nov. 29 at 9 p.m via special bus from Riga Central Hostel to the airport amidst NATO Summit security measures, on to Berlin and from Berlin to Rome, all on Easyjet. Saw Venice from the air at night, a special sight. Have been on the go since I got here; so much to see I have extended visit by a day but now have to move hostels, from the Alessandro to its sister Legends hostel down the street. I am in a 4 female dorm room with a bathro...

The Eternal City

Took the train with Julian and Alessandro to Rome to stay for one night. The train left at 6:40 am, so after a late night at the Shot Cafe and going to bed at about 2am 4 hours earlier, I was a little sleep deprived. The guys checked into their hotel and I got a hostel room at Alessandro Legends for the night for €17.50. In this huge world of places to visit, I had actually been to Rome once before. So I was sort of the tour guide for the guysa as we headed off to the Forum area to explo...

A big update from Rome

Hello once again to all and sundry and, as usual, allow me to begin by apologizing for not having updated sooner. As I'm sure most of you can understand, things can be a little hectic when you're traveling and attempting to work with some decidedly dodgy internet cafÈ type computers isn't exactly what I'd call a joy. Particularly when the sodding things don't want to play ball and won't let you upload photos, or simply misbehave themselves in myriad other ways. Unfortunately the laptop which ...

dinner I headed back to the hostel and grabbed a map to plan my

really only have a day and a half so I have to be efficient. After
planning the next day I headed down to the bar for a few drinks. Of

... and then turned to head to mine. I assured her that I knew my way back and turned to go. I had no idea. I walked for a while and assumed I would find it. About ten minutes later I was trying to decide whether it would be a good idea to just go back to Sebastian's. Then I remembered that I didn't know where that was either. So I did the most logical thing possible. I called my sister in Iowa, 10,000 miles away. I explained to her the situation. It was six in the morning. I ...

... down to the base of the falls, the Cadogan reference to Niagara falls assumed personal relevance. This place was packed with tourist shops selling the tackiest souvenirs to match Niagara at its worst. The place was packed. There were two entrances to the paths leading either side of the falls. Much of them are screened by trees, so you need to pay the admission to get closer. Even the paths on the far side of the road are roped of and guarded so that no one can get a ...
