... and strained the liquid. I’ll save it until we reach Whitehorse and can get jelly jars. The fireweed makes a tangy jelly that is fuchsia in color. The flavor is quite unique and I can’t wait to have some on my homemade English Muffin toast.

Wendell has spent most of the day doing battle with a squirrel. When Nitchie and I returned from our morning walk, we heard “thumping” under the hood of the truck. Upon investigation, we ...

It's an amazing place with puffins, otopus, seals and sea lions and a baby otter named Skittle. It's Alaska's only public aquarium and ocean wildlife rescue center. "Capital funding for the $56 million facility was made possible through the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Settlement" and other city bonds and ...
Glennallen, Alaska, United States woodrowtucsonThe morning tour to the ice museum began at 9. It's so cold inside! 20 F, so even with glove, scarf, everything, twenty minutes' still too long. But it's extraordinary. It's dark inside to prevent the ice from melting. So the pictures are not clear.

AFTER the arctic ocean mission, the trip resembled more ...

It's very pretty here, and the mosquitoes are most welcoming. I'll try to upload a picture from across the creek. Right this minute I'm doing laundry and charging my camera batteries. And writing this entry, of course,
Sue

Motorcycles are the last vehicles to enter the tunnel - 1.5 min. behind other traffic. As I said the tunnel was no problem either way for Alex and I. Whitter is a neat little town. It's slow=paced, isolated with plenty to do (great fishing, hiking, and especially kayaking). We had a ...

Speaking of gas stations, Marty filled up at $4.829/gallon yesterday. That is by far the highest we have ever paid. We did see gas in Healy, AK for $5.15/gallon so at least we haven't paid over $5 yet ...

Spending most of the day on the road or sightseeing does not leave time for blogging. Today, Sept. 25 is a rainy day and I have a nice, warm library at my disposal so I will try and do some blogging. It also provides me with a break from the most strenuous, stressful driving done over the last two days. (to be blogged later ...
Glennallen, Alaska, United States loboHyder, Alaska Once I passed under the large banner ---"Welcome to Hyder, Alaska", there was no doubt I had achieved one of my all-time travel goals of going to Alaska. Agreed, it was a somewhat of a hollow victory, but it is no different from various other encroachments into new territory I had made over the years. As examples I can cite: traveling from Istanbul along the Bosphorus to Anadolu-Kavagi for the sake of having visited "Asia"; taking a few steps ...

It’s almost literally the polar opposite of Arizona, with the outback loop back up to Fairbanks passing through Paxson instead of Arizona’s Payson on the way to Flagstaff. I spend the night in Delta junction, which I guess would correspond to Winslow in the Arizona analogy.
Glennallen, Alaska, United States hardiek... two young moose floating down the river which is full of rapids and the current is quite swift. Finally one made it to the shore (our side) and then the other a few minutes later. They scrambled up the hill toward us and then realized there were people at the top. One came within a few feet the other stay further back before they thought better of the idea and went back down to the river bank. Soon the mother moose came down the river and led them up the bank upstream and away from all ...
