The second day in the wildlife
Patagonia, The Start
Puerto Madryn on the Atlantic side of Patagonia is the base for visiting the Península Valdés and its extraordinary wildlife.
The peninsula sees its annual peak in tourism in the second half of the year when the Southern right whales come to its protected waters for mating and calving.
I'm too late for the whales, but Península …
Up the Atlantic Coast
To get from Puerto Natales, Chile to Puerto Madryn, Argentina was such a dizzing, confusing blur of border crossings and bus rides we barely knew what to say when the folks that ran the hostel asked us where we were coming from. A 4 hour bus ride south from Natales brought us to Punta Arenas where we switched buses and made our way to Rio Gallegos …
Wildlife Heaven of Puerto Madryn
Hey everyone!,
After a trip to Southern Patagonia, we avoided the dreadful 30 hour busride and substituted with a trip to Northern Patagonia via flight to Puerto Madryn. This decision saved us at least three days because you always lose an extra day to recuperate on a long bus ride. Glad we took this flight because you needed a lot of energy …
Penguins, Whales & the smallest dolphins on earth!
We arrived into Puerto Madryn after a very, very long bus ride but to a nice sunny day so we did not care. Walked to the hostel and we were quite impressed, had a great atmosphere and helped us to organise our trips out. The first trip 1 went on was an all day trip round the peninsular Valdez. Now the Valdez peninsula is unique due to fact that it …

TravelPod Member ReviewsLa Tosca Hostel Puerto Madryn
Stayed in April 2013, Hostel is clean and has a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is very helpfull. Great is the usage of bathroom and shower if you have just arrived or coming back from a tour (I did a "swimming with sea lions" tour and the tour operator did not have showers available). The only thing is that the breakfast consists only of typical dulces and you need to be able to handle that in the morning.

Great little hostel with clean rooms. They are a little dim (which isn't too bad if people turn on the lights in the dorm during the night...) but everything was neat and the staff was very friendly. I would totally recomend staying here.

We stayed 4 nights in La Tosca Hostel and we really had a great time there.
The staff (Rodrigo and Lucas) were wonderful! They gave us flan, soup, nice discussions and very useful tips. Rodrigo's homemade breakfast is amazing!
Nice patio and nice living room with one free computer available and always good music tuned up!
Gracias chicos por todo!

Nice green patio, clean bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen (two of them), comfortable bunk beds and most importantly: a welcoming, friendly, helpful and very well-informed staff.
I wish every hostel had a Sylvia at the reception!
