The back of the boat was a great place to view our passage. There weren't many people and you still got a great view of what was going on. I perched myself on a stack of chairs at the back of the boat. This gave me a great view over the gate plus let me relax at the same time.

We approached the Canal about daybreak heading for the Gatun locks where we are raised 85 feet above sea level. The current locks are 110 feet wide; our ship is just shy of 107 feet wide, the maximum allowed in the canal. New locks, wider and longer, are under construction.

We got up early and took the 8:30 ferry out, and it was only a forty five minute ride! As we were approaching the island, every view took my breath away! I was totally camera crazy! Good thing I have the panorama ...

... to meet and work with deaf students in preschool. We were working on the vowels and the color codes. They were adorable. After lunch, we took a quick stroll in Casco Viejo. After Panama Viejo was destroyed by Captain Morgan, the city was relocated to Casco Viejo. There was a story that a gold altar was painted black by a priest to fool Captain Morgan.
