Ushuaia

A travel blog entry by delynchster

Arrived into Ushuaia airport at around midday. Very cold but beautiful. Hostel is really near to the airport. Nice and clean place with 2 kitchens and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. We wandered in to town, had a lovely dinner in Marco Polo restaurant and went for a drink in Dublin, Ushuaia´s Irish pub that had the best reccommendations …

Hola from the end of the world! Got into Ushuaia at 20.00, then in true Diane style went out to find some people to talk to. Found an Irish bar and sampled the local brew Beagle, very nice too. Got chatting with some bikers from Switzerland who were entertaining. I thought they'd said they were travelling from here to San Diego in 3 weeks, but …

Being at the **** end of the world (literally), Ushuaia has probably been the most tedious place for us to get too, with a 12hour bus trip during the day, which included a ferry crossing and border crossing (from Chile to Argentina).

The ferry crossing was actually pretty cool though, and after only about 2hours on the bus you get off it …

Beagle Channel boat trip

A travel blog entry by djanderson

It was snowing this morning when we woke up! Having booked our flight to El Calafate last night for tonight, we knew we only had today to do our boat trip, and after looking outside and seeing the snow falling it looked a bit ominous for both the boat trip and the flight. The guy who was at reception in the hostel informed us it would likely be ok …

While I was in South America I really wanted to see Patagonia. I had seen it in lots of documentaries, and it really looked like an amazing place. Unfortunately I had no idea where to base myself, nor had I done any research. So it was much like a game of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" that my destination ended up as Ushuaia. When I finally did start …

Pleasure, pleasure, pleasure! Great place to stop over in Ushuaia, in spotless condition and very friendly and helpful staff. Safe parking for the odd 4x4 or overland motorbikes in the secure garden. Free wi-fi/internet and breakfast. Great beds!

A hotel for backpackers

The mattresses might need replacing, but this is one of the nicer hostels you will ever stay in. Staff are helpful and friendly. WIFI is also fast and reliable. It's close to the airport, which makes it a bit of a walk from the town centre...

Clean hostel with friendly staff. It´s a little bit of a hike into town but taxis are cheap (probably the only cheap thing in this town...).
