4 am (UK time) - drive to heathrow
9:30 (UK time) - flight to DALLAs, TEXAS (took 9 and a bit hours)
12:30 (Texas time) - arrived!
5:00 (Texas time) - leave dallas to SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA (took 4 hours)
8:15 (Costa Rica time ) - arrived !!!

Plans for an 11 o'clock bus outta town were cut short as it was fully booked. 1 o'clock it is. Instead we wandered up Playa Negro for a bit and grabbed some lunch. Today was relentlessly hot. I haven't felt this kinda humidity since the pampas. The trip to San Jose took four and a half hours. The bus seems half way between a coach and a chicken bus. Under bus storage, comfy seats but windows not air ...

I took quite a few pics of murals and some splendid buildings, which are unfortunately surrounded by concrete monstrosities. I went to an ATM, a bakery, where I picked up some rolls, and then started the ascent towards my hotel. I stopped in a Chinese shop and felt sorry for a Chinese shop assistant who seemed able to speak Spanish, but had great difficulty getting ...

The countryside around Mastatal is beautiful. All the locals we met were kind and happy people .

One day, after heavy rain showers, we saw two toucans sitting next to each other on a tree. Both were singing together loud and simultaneously. These two colorful, toucans were greeting the sun. And everybody else was listening. It was wonderful! .

... sleeps. The morning chorus here is not just birds, it includes howler monkeys. After breakfast I went for a walk along the tracks in the jungle around the hostel. At 10 the guy who runs the hostel dropped me in town and I wandered towards an area where I knew there were caimans, Along the way I got distracted by the Scarlet Macaws. After admiring them for a while I continued, only to get distracted by the Jesus ...
