We took a day time bus from Mendoza to Santiago as weŽd been advised that the scenery was spectacular and it was beautiful, although Katie was amazed at Neil who buried his head in his book most of the way! The journey was supposed to be 6 hours but took a little longer as we had to stop for ages at the Chilean border, unload all our bags and get …
Chile - Santiago, Quintero, Valle Nevado
So, next day we were up at 7am to get the bus to Santiago. A 24hour one, might I add. Not a patch on the 4 day bus I got across Canada but still. It was long. We entertained ourslves though even though they showed the movie 27 Dresses 4 times with Spanish subtitles and also dubbed in Spanish, the Scorpion King twice and some **** Steven Segal movie …
Ciao Sur America!
Myself and Mark arrived around 7am pretty tired so we took the metro train and checked into a hostel - La Casa Roja, which was fairly expensive as we got a twin room as Mark was flying out that night and just wanted somewhere safe to leave his stuff (although guess 12.50 dollars each for a twin in a city is pretty cheap!). It was a nice place, huge …
Recovering
We didn't expect to spend as long as we did in Santiago but because of the Earthquake our flights were disrupted and pushed back a few days. We tried to push back our flight from Lima to Chile in order to spend more time in Peru as it was so rushed but it wasn't to be.
A lot of people had recommended the hostel 'Casa Roja' to us as it was …

Last day traveling in our personal minibus, we headed out at 8:30am on the road to arrive in Santiago at 7:30pm! Though this was not a straight through journey, we stopped off at a national park on route taking the minibus on one of the worst dirt roads so far. For the first time in a while I got motion sickness from the ride, we were being thrown …

Good large hostel, have a private room however for a room with no bathroom it is quite expensive. Noise also echos around at the front of the hostel and we could hear the party at the back of the hostel.
However very clean and staff friendly.

Huge setting, dozens of dorm rooms and great colonial style setting. It was pretty cold at night as the windows seemed to be letting in a lot of wind. Staff fantastic, couldn't do enough for you.

Fantastic hostal, newly restored by Aussie. Great open communal areas and garden. The kitchen space was awesome and everyone really friendly. I recommend it to others. Enjoy!
