Pina coladas the length of my arm!

We made it to Mexico after 30 hours of travel. We had a great feast of mexican last night while listening to a mariachi band play and the flambe waiters make all sorts of desserts, coffees and lobster. It felt great to sit in the humid heat and be on vacation.

My pina coloada was the length of my arm! Watched Buffalo clobber ...

Island adventures

... with a pastel blue color like one of Lek's t shirts ;)

After a quick bite to eat on the Island & start the task of hunting for some (cheap) accommodation. As luck would have it I spy a tourist office just across the road & ask them for a place to stay under $500 pesos (about $50 aussi), but still with air con and attached bathroom. I am handed a map and another page with hotels listed. She circled a few and told me the pick of the bunch ...

Election, Thanksgiving, and Home for Holidays

... personally to his family in Cancun, where they live right in the hotel zone. (His father is a diplomat.) It was really fun to drop in on them wearing a santa hat and carrying a bag of presents, and they were really excited and invited me in for a beer. I hung out with his younger family for a while. Their back porch is literally 30 feet from the ocean, but they moved there before Cancun was the huge destination it is today.

... the white sand beaches and laughing to lazy americans, driving around the small town in golf carts. The second day we decided to see the whole island. Since it is only 8km long, this wasn't a problem. We rented bicicletas (bikes) and ... laughed out loud! The bikes were old, with the oldest brake system in the world (it reminded me of my childhood and the good Yugoslavian days ...

The wheels on the bus go round and round...

... getting lost in the cacaphony of downtown Cancun on bus route R-2 would lead us astray to the literal end-of-the-line by 2:30pm. By the time we returned to the city center, it was too late to make it out to the airport, fly and come back. So, we decided to come back to the hotel for some beach and pool time. Which actually was just exactly as expected - except that we were the only guys lounging around the pool deck with two laptops, four ...

resort beach pictures

I just realized that there is not a single photo of me in this trip. I snorkeled, cliff dived, sailed, explored the local markets. I wish i spoke at least some 'food' related spanish so i could order stuff from the food stalls in the local markets.

The shortest engagement in history!

... mind that my knowledge of his language can be described as pathetic, at best... For a moment there, I had a vision of myself as a Mexican bride, wrapped in layers of pink tuille and silk. I've seen the wedding gowns they wear here, it would've been a dream of a marengue wedding! I'd be the proverbial human cotton candy.... barefoot on the beach dancing to the best music Mexico has to offer, with 150 of his closest relatives there. Alas ...

Day 4 - Relax

... because that's the location of the one and only webcam south of Cancun. I've been checking the webcam daily for 2 months, so I have to see it. I told Mom and Dad that at some point they may get a call from us if we happen to find the webcam, and if I happen to have working cell phone service. The latter is a big if. After about an hour, sure enough, we hit Mamitasa Beach Club. A little further north, there it is, the webcam sticking out from a dive ...

Cancun!
