Muchas margaritas

A travel blog entry by emiliaarn

Not a typical colombian drink but 2x1 margarites became our new evening passtime. Washed down with beer and free shots of rum and spirit measures poured by a polish girl (oh, you wanted some sprite with your vodka). True colombian party hostel/town. when in rome...

Thus, to my surprise, my last weekend in the country.

A convenient launching pad for many backpackers being so close to Tayrona National Park, Ciudad Perdida and the beaches of Taganga, Santa Marta by reputation has little to offer on its own. A large city nonetheless it pre-dates even Cartagena as the oldest existing Spanish city in South America.

Knowing what to expect with the freezing buses we jumped on wearing half our rucksack prepared for the 14 hour overnight journey to Santa Marta, Colombia's oldest city founded in 1525. We shared a taxi with another 'gringo' (westerner) and headed to Brisa Loca, one of the best hostel in town which was a converted colonial mansion.

At 6:30pm I arrived in the small coastal town of Taganga situated on the Caribbean coast of northern Colombia. On the same shuttle I met a young guy named Jeff whom I'd previously met while going to the mud volcano in Cartagena. After talking with one another we decided to stay at the Hostel Pelican. It had a great location and the place was …

    Amazing Hostel!

I only stayed here one night as I had a flight the next day to Medellin. But the hostel was enormous, with a great pool, rooftop terrace, bar, and more. The vibe and party here was very good as well. And I can't forget to mention the hilarious artwork scattered throughout the hostel. I highly recommend staying at this hostel as I wish I could've stayed longer.

Had a great time at La Brisa Loca. The place has everything a backpacker needs. A beautiful restored mansion in Old Town. Nice rooms, cool showers (great escape from the heat). Decent food, lovely bar and very helpful staff. It's a party hostel but was quiet when we were here. i would highly recommend it.

    Chill atmosphere

We enjoyed our stay at la brisa loca. The staff was very friendly and provided us with linens and a free drink at the bar upon entrance. The hostel itself is an awesome space with 3 floors including a kitchen, bar, billiards area, rooftop, and living room with tv. Our only complaint was that the rooms (even though there are fans) are very very hot and it was uncomfortable to sleep. There was a pool too but it wasnt as clean as it could have been so nobody was using it. Other than that its a great place to stay and in a great location.

highly reccommend, one of the nicest hostels iv stayed in, slightly cleeky staff, just mean everyone seems to be part of their gang. but other than that, nice rooms, reasonably priced, nice people, nice atmosphere.

We only stayed a night at La Brisa Loca, but it seemed a nice enough place! The dorms are big and a bit warm, but it has a roof terrace, bar, pool, pool table, TV and a small kitchen. Can't really rate the atmosphere but it seemed the bar would be good fun when it gets going. Nice staff, helpful. It was right in the town, near the beach and bars etc. Not the quietest place and I think if you are looking for a party you'll get one here.
