A bar with beds attached; until they reopen the original Loki in La Paz, give this a miss

I expected much from Loki, this place had raving reviews. Sadly though they relocated in March to an old hotel while they apparently refurbish the original. The location is good, the views from the bar stunning but there it ends. The rooms are tired, smell terribly of damp as the showers leak through the bathroom door onto the old carpets. Wifi is non existent; the fault does not lie with "Bolivia" as reception kept telling everyone as other cafes nearby had good access. Other guests had stayed at the orignal Loki & were very disappointed with this one. If you simply want to get drunk & run screaming around the corridors at 4 in the morning then this is the place for you, otherwise go elsewhere. Wild Rover I heard great things about.

This hostel runs like a machine, from the events hosted to general cleanliness and the professionality of the staff. It's huge, there's always a party, and the kitchen serves decent food (though the free breakfast is just a white roll, butter and sugary jam). The wifi sucked, but that might be better in the new location. Noisy, busy hostel; noisy, busy city.

All in all a great hostel. Very clean with excellent facilities. The bar area is well maintained with decent food at a good price. Loki's really comes alive at night. With pool, bar games, drinking games and lots more to add to already vibrant party atmosphere. Although it can get a bit full on, it is difficult to avoid getting a little trapped in the mayhem, there are rooms available in quieter areas.

Beds are large, warm and comfortable, there's free wifi and even though this is a party hostel, it's surprisingly easy to find peace and quiet, both in the quiet common area downstairs away from the bar, and in the rooms, which are silent even when the bar is rocking. The bar itself is beautifully decorated. Definitely recommend - I was surprised by how much I enjoyed myself here.

    Place to meet other Australians

I will not stay here again - this type of hostel is not designed for travellers who want to actually experience the culture of the country they are visiting. Most people in the hostel are from Australia, and spend their time in the Loki bar drinking. They sell food at the bar also, and most people don't even explore other restaurants in the city.
Stay here if you want a culture free party. If you want something a bit more real, I hear that Adventure Brew Hostel is really good, still has a good social atmosphere, but not a little Australia in Bolivia

Despite the warning, Loki is a fantastic hostel with friendly staff and many fun events throughout the week.

It was very clean, we stayed in a 8 man dorm with bathroom. The food was excellent, although a bit expensive. Drinks are very cheap. Get a room on the ground floor as the second floor can get a bit loud at night due to the bar.

After a 10 hour bus and arriving to La Paz at 8am we headed straight for our Hostel. La Paz is the highest capital city in the world - 3700m. The drive into the terminal was epic as you come in over the top so can see La Paz sprawling out way beneath you. It's situated in a valley between high mountains and goes on for miles. It's an odd city as …

Today we spent the morning planning the second half of our trip and marks the half way point of the journey! We are planning on riding the worlds most dangerous road, flying to Las Pampas to see the rainforest, going to the salt flats in Bolivia, and then heading to the south of Chile. After we booked all of this we had to get some things for the …

Unfortunately all of my time in La Paz was marred by rain, and not just regular rain, but torrential storms rolling in over the mountains. It made sight-seeing difficult and so I didn't see much. I walked around town a couple of times during the wet spells, but it was still very grey, which gave me an overall grey impression of the city. There were …

I left Puno on a bus to the border of Peru and Bolivia and it was there I found out Bolivia was a pretty easy country to get into no matter who you are. No bags scans just a stroll through the gates across the border and back on the next bus. I had to then cross the Bolivian side of lake Titicaca in Copacobana by boat before continuing on to La Paz …
