We're back!!We had such an amazing time, the islands are nothing like mainland Fiji, especially Nadi which we found to be abit unwelcoming. Well, actually they are welcoming in Nadi, but only because they want to rip you off in their gift shops! I'm sitting here back in the Aquarius hostel, getting eaten alive by mosquitos, where we are spending our final night before we fly to NZ. It's so difficult to sum up the islands, especially since the internet is not exactly cheap! But i'll try and gi...

... whole stay and the reef was only 30 yards out ,,the fish you could see were so colourful , a child could not have coloured them any better . Our hut was up a steep walk on the side of a hill but the views were well worth it , Sharon was made up as it had mozzie nets and spray and plugs ,, simple pleasures !!.Kev was made up as it had a kettle !! The walk up to the hut was okay if you avoided the ...
Yasawa Islands, Fiji kevsharon... up at the millions of bright stars in the sky, before heading to dinner. We sat on tables of 8, so we got chatting to the people about our travels and theirs. Dinner was nice - coconut soup, chicken with papaya salad and ice cream with pineapple and rum.
The next day we went for breakfast of fruit and pastries. David and I then went on the village walk with some others at the hotel. We walked behind the resort and over a hill that gave us great views over the bay and ...
... the resort staff. Kava is a homebrew made from the roots of the plant. It looks like muddy water and tastes like dirt. Despite Brad winning the reputation of "Kava King" and drinking many "high tide" portions, we did not start hallucinating. We felt a slight tingling on our tongues and seemed to get more relaxed the more we drank.
Yasawa Islands, Fiji bradandsandi... say, moods got pretty sombor and everyone was starting to get on everyone elses nerves in such a confined space. we felt kindof trapped, and opted out of our summit hike and guided kayak tour around the island due to the weather. this part of the trip im going to choose to repress in my memory in years to come. it wasnt all bad though. one definate highlight was an invitation by a staff member, named Salaman, to come ...
Yasawa Island, Yasawa Islands, Fiji tsquared... t upload from here so we'll do that when we get home next week. Being in the front of the plane we were the first ones off, first to get through customs and get our bags. Easy-squeezy! We're in the Turtle Island office now waiting for our ride to the marina. We were supposed to take a seaplane transfer to the island but the plane has issues so now we're taking the boat. It's 3 times as long time wise but at least we'll see a different side of ...
Turtle Island, Fiji 2knightsabroad... on my travels, at some point the silly tourists are asked to join-in at some point. So we joined the guys with the grass skirts for a dance. The local kids found it hilarious, it was good fun. Back to the boat for more crab racing which appears to be a national sport in Fiji. Then the tone of the evening was significantly reduced with a variety of dirty drinking games and challenges with photographic evidence existing on someone's camera. So glad I'm not on Facebook!
Yasawa Islands, Fiji christosp... island and they were stiff and uptight and after a couple of days they were like kids again - just happy and carefree and joking along with the rest of the group. It was truly magical. We were asking the managing director about the celebrities they've had on the island and what it was like on the island when they were here and he told us that when celebrities come they receive no special treatment and are treated just like everyone else and are required to eat with the rest of the group ...
Turtle Island, Fiji ramrtw... we all came back in a better mood (even though we had rendition number four of the Fijian farewell song). Since this was our final night of the tour we had decided that we were going to "roast" Ronan. He's been an absolutely great tour director, and we had to give him something to remember us by. Several people made up a variety of skits, songs, jabs, jokes, and whatever. Ken and I were assigned to keep Ronan down in the lounge until all was set ...
Yasawa Islands, Fiji ksjsburke... in grass skirts and spears etc. We then all joined in for a dance and it was a really cool night. They then made a bonfire on the beach and we sat around it (still with the Fijians singing behind us) and generally this must be the nicest backpackers have ever been treated in history! Day 214 - Had such a good sprawl in my double bed and woke up to the sound of waves outside my room and sun beaming through my window. However, it wasn't to last as a good storm was ...
