The day we arrived in Kyoto from Kanazawa was the most horribel day of our trip, weather wise. We arrived in the early afternoon to torrential rain, and it just didn't stop all day long. After a couple of hours walking around the city we grew tired of it and decided to head for Kyoto station, which turned out to be a sightseeing event in itself. The station displays some of the most amazing architecture, and also houses a huge shopping centre and a rooftop garden from which you can have great...
Kyoto, Kinki, Japan ailieWell, five days gone and its seems like a day. Japan, Tokyo in particular is quite simply, amazing. Yeah I know everyone says that but to be fair, the people are, without a shadow of a doubt, the friendliest I've ever met. If you're lost, or just look lost, someone will ask if you need help, even the blokes digging up the road bow to you, its quite something else!! The flight was cool, now i know its been a while since I've been on a long haul flight but wow! Movie database, TV in the back of...
Tokyo, Kanto, Japan alwill1Early this morning I boarded the Shinkansen "Nozomi" bound for Kyoto. This Shinkansen "bullet trains" are renowned for their speed, and the Nozomi is the fastest service as it stops at few stations. The train was very clean and spacious, lots of leg room, and each time the conductor went through the carriage he turned, removed his cap, and bowed at the carriage of passengers. It was a misty morning so I wasn't able to see many sights as we sped along - didn't see Mount Fuji which was one view...
Kyoto, Japan amycmThe toast and green tea I had for breakfast seemed to fill me with renewed energy, and I rushed out of the hostel early that morning and made my way to Kyoto Station. Of course, it helped that today was a relatively cool 25C which made it much more pleasant to sightsee. I took the JR line to Saga-Arashiyama (about 230JPY) where I walked through a bamboo forest of impressive identical thin, green bamboo trunks, then continued on to Omuru on the Keifuku Electric Railway Kitano Line (flat fee of...
Kyoto, Japan amycm20/06/06 Took the Limited Express train to Shichijo Station. Walk ~5min and reach our Backpackers Hostel "K's House Kyoto". It one of the BEST hostel I have ever been to. Clean and new. Also the hostel pretty close to Kyoto central. We booked a room for 2 nights. If you are looking for a hostel in kytoto, K's House is the one! After putting our bags down, we took a 45min walk from the hostel to Kiyomizudera (300 yen). It is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. The temple was added to ...

We rose early to the stream babbling and the early birds chirping just outside our tatami room and had one last soak in the hot spring tub – wow what a way to start our day. The lovely hosts in our guest house prepared a breakfast for us and the other guests which fuelled us for the big day ahead. Forwarding our luggage to the train station we jumped on an early bus and headed for the hills around Hakone.
Our first stop on the bus – still going up the moun...

Our first morning in Kyoto found us having a slow start to the day. A long night's sleep was on all our wish lists and that is just about what we got. Making ourselves a breakfast in the very well equipped kitchen, we then headed off mid morning to stroll through the ancient quarters, shopping districts, shrines and temples that Kyoto is so famous for.
Rather than list the long names of so many places we have visited today, we’ll add lots of photos to describe t...

We stayed in Kyoto for 3 nights in a lovely hostel called K's House. We rented bicycles and did a lot of sightseeing and exploring. It was still really hot by the way and was 37 to 39 degrees while we were here. It thundered and rained a bit but it didn't really get any cooler.
