I took a 4 hour bus ride to Riga, Latvia, where I'm writing from
now. Yet again, it was a blizzard outside on APRIL 8TH so I rather
enjoyed relaxing in my hostel room away from the cold. I woke up the
next morning and took a 3 hour walking tour of Riga. It was nice, but
not too impressive. I am having trouble putting my finger on what the
culture of Riga is like, but even after walking ...
We arrived in to Riga and were greeted by our Couchsurfing host Janis, who took us straight to the beach for a game of football with a couple of his pals. Never would have imagined Latvia had nice beaches, but they are so nice that the area is flooded with Russians in the summer who have built grotesque footballer style mansions along the coast.
We got on really well with Janis and he convinced us to stay a third night so he could take us for a Friday night out in Riga.
... wet as previously my socks were quite waterlogged so once again I headed back to the hotel to change them. At least the hotel was close to the main attractions in Riga. I then decided to head back to the Old Town to explore a few more streets and maybe look at a few more buildings in the nouveau district. ... the time that Kitija would finally be a part of our family. Now it is a reality, and it is surreal.
We met with the Orphan Court director the day after we arrived and were told a little more about Kitija's past and we were able to ask a few questions about her life and her family. After speaking with Linda, the OC director we then went to Kitija's children home (Kit does not call it an orphanage).
