G'Day sheila's and cobber's

G'day, Well, we made it after 15 hours flying. We spent the "Arvo" kipping and then checked out the local internet cafe around the corner in Kings Cross. A few fine specimens of locals (well educated "Cobbers") were fighting right out side the internet cafe so Carolines first comment as she was still waking up was "why the hell did we stay in this lovely area". Struth, I though, the Sheila's already got a "cob on" , what a "beaut" start, aye! Kanga house was advertised as being in Potts Point...

Sydneysiders

Well after a mere 11 hour flight from Jo'burg Euna and I arrived in Sydney unscathed. We were met by Ian at the airport which was nice, and a crazy Asian man drove us to our hostel. Ian assured us that STA had recommended a nice hostel to stay in in Kings Cross, now Euna and I had not done much reading up on Sydney and didn't realise that Kings Cross is Sydneys red light district! The hostel (Kanga house, don't stay there!) had amazing views down to the harbour and of the opera house, so on a...

Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and Boxing Day!

Hey guys!   Hopr you all had a great christmas and maybe some of you had a white one? I had a great christmas, albeit completetly hectic! Caz, Sian and I moved from out respective ****** hostels/ posh guest houses into a posh hostel down the road. Our hostel room has a bathroom, kitchen and TV with DVD in it, in the actual room which is pretty big news. Think my old hostel (Kanga house) had about 2 showers for the whole hostel! Its a nice hostel, but doesn't have quite the same atmosphere to ...

Bye Bye Kings Cross!

Wohoo! 3 days then Im outta this place! Outta Jewish 'I don't' Care, outta the red light district and outta the city! As you can tell i am muchio excited about our forthcoming road trip. As it is my last week I thought I may as well show you the kinda placeweve been living, although in fairness we do live on the next street down, so it no where near as bad as the heart of kings Cross. In the photo of the street, think you can clearly see two prostitutes there. Nearly got into trouble getting ...

Sydney

So...... back after 4 days of fun in Sydney. Arrived last Saturday early morning after partying all night long with friends from the Charles Connibere.... Check out the other pics from the parties.... backpackers, the Kanga House, nice and cosy, was located in the red light district of Syndey, Kings Cross. honestly, if you have been to Amsterdam or any other European city, this is quite tame.... met up with friends from Melbourne, Noori and her sister Hana, and did the obligatory walking tour...

The trials and tribulations of finding a job!

Over the last couple of weeks I've had a lot of fun. I visited the famous 'travellers contact point' to try and find work. I perused the notice boards and noted the couple of jobs I thought would be suitable. On the way back to the hostel I saw a dive shop and went in for a chat. After 10 mins the conversation got around to offering me a job! I was extatic. The job was easy, filling tanks and ferrying to and from dive sites, the guy who did this already was a qualified instructor and Mike (th...

A job at last

Well it's been quite crazy since I last wrote, we went out on the wed evening to world bar in kings cross to say goodbye to Irish Dave, it was a very drunken night with Owen getting stalked by an explicit female model - don't worry Sarah, he spent the entire night running away and we all had a great laugh watching him squirm! we went out on the friday night (6th I think) to say goodbye to Rosie, a friend from Kanga house who was heading home on sunday. After a heavy night of drinking I arrive...

Sydney airport time to begin the trip

I'm at the Sydney airport, it's early and the internet is free. My plan is to take the train to king's cross and use the free 3 nites credit to the Kanga House guesthouse the Yarron has given me from when he was in Aussie. That's all, no other plan, except maybe i'll meet some cool people to travel with, maybe i'll do it all solo, i don't even know yet, but either way i'm totally excited to see what becomes of it. cheers!

Kings Cross Backpacker

well, here i am, a lone backpacker in the land down unda. I made it to my hostel from the airport, only ended up paying the student fare on the train which is significantly less than the adult fare. I had a 3 nite credit for my hostel from Yaron who didn't end up staying when he changed his flight to Thailand 2 months ago (thanks yari!!!). so, i'm staying here free and my room is the greatest! altho it's a big jump from thailand, where 4$ buys you a private double room with a bathroom ensuite...

Welcome to Sydney

SYDNEY! A very cool big city. As soon as we arrived we went straight out sight-seeing, unable to contain our excitement about being here, even though there were a few drizzles. Our first destination was through Hyde Park and the Royal Botanical Gardens to catch our first glimpse of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. I know we went a little over the top with the amount of photos we took of them but they were just so impressive being the most famous icons of Sydney and we wanted to do them jus...
