Good breakfasts, shame they don't cook the cockerel

The staff are nice, and the place has good clean facilities. I would give it a higher rating, but personally I prefer less polished places, with a more homely feel. This is more of you kind of designer hostel for the early twenties crowd. Also, one pet hate of mine is being given sheets to make the bed myself. I don't mind stripping the bed but have I just arrived in prison? One idiot woke me up slapping down his bed sheets and pillow, making his bed at a ridiculous time. Yes, he's the idiot but if the hostel could just make the beds! Also, the one top sheet wasn't enough for the evenings at this time of year. Anyway, this is just a small gripe. If the hostel could just ring the neck of the cockerel that was sounding the alarm from 5am every morning that would be nice too. Maybe I'm being a little unfair with the three stars, but I'm taking into account the price of B$80 for a 6 bed dorm too, which I think is a little high here. Santa Cruz is generally pricier than other parts of Bolivia but still. I had a private double with bathroom for the same price in Uyuni. I'm not convinced there is that much difference. To finish on a positive, kind of, it is walking distance to the smaller, domestic airport. It's just a shame TAM cancelled my flight, and I ended up going from the other airport later. :)
Actually the breakfasts were pretty good by Bolivian standards. A decent quality and selection of fruit, bread to toast (a novelty here), choice of fried or scrambled egg, reasonable coffee (not instant crap), and freshly made juice. If only I could give three and a half stars.

The hostel is very clean with good services. The matress of my bed was a bit old and uncomfortable. 25-30 minutes waltk from the city centre.

This is a pretty and clean hostel. the swimming pool is nice, there are 2 kitchens: one for the BBQ organized by the staff, one for you to cook. there is a minimum of persons required to launch the BBQ and we were not enough, but nicely they accepted to do it anyway as it was our last night in Bolivia, thanks! We stayed there only 1 night but would have stayed more. I highly recommend it.

I went to Santa Cruz only as a launch pad to Amboro National Park. As Santa Cruz is the biggest city In Bolivia, I thought it would be no problem arranging a visit through a tour company there. Of course I should have known they would be shut on a Saturday afternoon, not opening until Monday morning. So on Monday, I made arrangements by email with …
