I ended up spending 10 days or so in or around Melbourne. Arriving into Melbourne at 5am after an overnight bus would have been traumatic had it not been for my mate Emma who had arrived the night before and booked a bed for me at the un manor like Jackson's Manor. Nice dorm where we met some lovely German girls Anna and Katrin but filthy bathrooms which earned me an argument with the cleaner after we complained about his standards. Not nice. So Melbourne - we stayed in St Kilda which is the ...
Melbourne, Australia amandaroberts7920th June 2006 After a good flight that consisted of moi (Zoe) gassing to a man the whole way there and Jem catching flies, we landed in the freezing cold that was Melbourne. We were shivering and it was such a shock compared to the humidity of Singapore. We roamed the streets of St Kilda for a while and eventually found our way to Jackson's Manor hostel. After a day of sleeping, we somehow secured a job on our first real day out. And...what a job. It couldn't just be any job when it involves...
Melbourne, Australia zoe_ellis... a small laptop. Now I can make a little more effort with my blogs!
Like a boy with a new toy, I was itching to get it on and get typing. So I went down to the previously quiet bar, and found that someone had detonated a large student bomb in the vicinity. The bar was heaving like a nightclub, and the mens loo had a nice carpet of vomit mixed with p*ss. Determined, I sat in the corner of the bar writing the first part of this blog entry.
Lana (the looker from the UK) brought ...
... of pepper spray, as the bouncers of the club beneath the last pub where I went to had some bother with a nasty bloke, which led to the massive usage of pepper spray, even spreading to our pub.
After a long sleep, I just had a quiet saturday and bought some food, with most of it getting nicked in the hostel kitchen again. Thieving little *****! That night, I hit Brunswick street with some other backpackers and after a few beers we bumped into a release ...
... hadn't seen this on the website (and I doubt it was really written somewhere) as there were about five people with the same problem. There I was 2 minutes before closure buying an onward flight to Singapore - apparently fully flexible and therefore fully refundable. We will see.......And did they ask when entering Thailand for onward flights??????? - of course not .......as everybody knows ...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia christine.thode... and stacked in the fridge. going to ikeathis is actually a pleasant task when performed at precisely 11am on a Tuesday. There is NO ONE in there and more excitingly, no screaming children in there.... ah! awaiting deliveriesthis is a particularly exciting task - made even more exciting when you don't have to be anywhere else. The frustration completely disappears, there is no constant clock watching, no "they said they'd be here by ...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia samaracliffordWe had a day wondering around Melbourne. We went to a weekly market that sold just aboot everything from meat, veg, fancy food, clothes, trinkets, cheesy cheap stuff. Ya what a mix i know. Then went to Old Melbourne Gaol (jail), some place Emma actually had not been. There 135 prisoners were hung between the late 1800's to 1930's i believe. It's obviously now a museum. So it was quite gruesome and dank...with all the different stories of ...
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia tracymiller... or to town or sometimes a little farther afield to the local dam - for a small fee per week we get all our meals, the orchard had employed a French chef who is working here in order to get his Australian residency - he cooks the most delicious meals! The work is pretty hard and we're not sure how long we'll stick it, but it's definitely a good experience - we're meeting loads of people too, it's kind of like a big holiday camp minus the holiday!!
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia katandstevie... enough, the drought-ravaged, semi-arable country of the Murray. As we cross the Murray I notice a lake on the horizon that looks like a foetus. Just as I'm realising that it's Lake Tyrell and that Swan Hill must be somewhere close, the pilot announces that we're currently flying over the city of Swan Hill. All I'd need to do is parachute out! Dad's there to meet me at Tullamarine, and Mum and Ben aren't far off. And then it's off home for Christmas.
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia bray... all day relaxing, it was breathtaking. We then headed back to Melbourne and on the way we stopped of at Arat to have some dinner which was the KFC. The views of the subset where great and the views from the top of the Melbourne bridge looking at the city. We arrived back at the hostel at 9.40pm and I was pretty tired. I met some more wonderful people and had an amazing trip with lots of walking.
