Sangria and Picasso

I caught the Alsa bus to Madrid yesterday morning, which was actually really comfortable. About 45 minutes south of Santander were a couple of BEAUTIFUL little Spanish villages (with hostels!) and huge craggy cliffs that looked great for rock climbing. Madrid is 35 degrees today! And I'm carrying my heavy backpack on the metro when it breaks down because it overheated. I was soaked in sweat by the time I found my hostel - La Posada de Los Huertas - right in the middle of Dollar Store Hell. I ...

Madrid

We arrived in Madrid on Saturday the 21st of October... We found our hostel (International youth hostel la posada de huertas) quite easily and got settled. We lucked out and are staying in a 4 bed dorm. When we were getting ready, our friend dane came and knocked on our door!.. Its weird because we met him on the train to Nice.. hung out all of nice.. Bumped into him in Barcelona.. and then again here in Madrid.. what a guy! and 2 of our friends from Barcelona were staying at this hostel as w...

from La Chueca to El Prado

La Cheuca turned into a dancing frenzy as we hopped from place to place...for a Monday night...it made New Yorks Club scene look dead on a Saturday night...though the trick was that all the bars were extremely small so it was always packed...frankly i prefer lots of tiny bars for dancing then a handful of big ones. On our way there Bouncers seemed to have a different kind of job here...instead of preventing people from coming in...the do the opposite and scout out people to come in...apparent...

I head back inside the airport and the information people wearing the neon smocks ignore me while they’re taking a smoking break. When I ask about making a phone call they point me to the information booth, and the man at the information booth tells me to use the public phone. I have a few Euros and dial the ...

Cost more $$ to stay with a host than in a hostel.

... you are early so you have to go out to eat dinner with them and other guests and so you say your not hungry because you are on a strictly (1euro-max) bread diet and they say thats okay you can just get a drink or something. so you have to buy a 3euro drink and be the only wierd one not eating and be hungry but you can´t eat your bread because you said your not hungry. then you go to flamenco and realize ...

Travel Day from Barcelona to Madrid

... food that was so good or our Asian cuisine withdrawals. Prior to dinner we visited the Prado Art Museum. SHE SAID: The airport in Barcelona was crazy. People everywhere, long lines, and pretty chaotic. But we made our flight. In retrospect I would recommend taking the AVE train versus flying if anyone every finds themselves in this situation. Driving into Madrid was ...

Journal Entry: Day Four in Madrid

"A traveler without knowledge is a bird without wings" - Sa'di 29 March Day 4: Madrid, Spain We arrived late last night in Spain. The ease that settles over your travels when there is a way to communicate. Alex is able to speak fluently to people here. I'm the only one with no ability to speak the language which targets me as useless but my other three companions make up for it. Knew I shouldn't have taken French in high school. Down a dark alley, we found our hotel. Far from a ...

The weather had been pretty cloudy and rainy so I am not going to come home with that amazing tan I had mid way though.  Other then that things are good! We have finals this week and then packing and reorientation stuff going on. This trip has seriously been the most amazing three months of my life. I can't even explain how much I have been through, seen and learned. I have done so many things that I never even knew I ...

I looked at him dumfound, thinking that something was lost in translation. I asked him, "hay dos libros?" (there are two books?) and he said, "Oh yes, there is one called "Eva Luna" and one called "Cuentos de Eva Luna", both written by Isabel Allende. Well, as most of you that know me well might have guessed by now, I am supposed to read ...

... was we were under consideration. Madrid is willing and able (to be fair) to spend €€€€€€&eu ro;€€€€€ in preparations to attract the attention of the committee - Public Works are underway all over the community ("Their tax €€s at work") and a mega sports complex has been built (renovated, actually) that is impressive. Paris is also under consideration and according to Pablo, will probably win. "Joder ...
