Term time trip to Amsterdam with friends

A travel blog entry by nateg

In February 2013 me and some friends flew out to Amsterdam to enjoy a break from the "stressful" university life. In total there were 6 of us and we flew from Manchester airport.

We landed late at night, but luckily had the expertise of our good friend to guide us to the correct bus and eventually the correct hostel.

The hostel …

There was a sprinkle of rain and it teased us as dawn set upon Paris. We caught the metro to main train station and had a small breakfast but I was still hungry. We waited in front a big screen for our platform number to come up. The screen was constantly changing so we had to keep an eye on it, which was about 20min or so. The train departed for …

Queen's Day - The Greatest Party in Amsterdam

Queen's Day. In Amsterdam. An experience everyone should enjoy at some point in their lives. There is just nothing like it. One of, if not the most amazing parties I have ever attended.

It all started Thursday night actually. After arriving and changing out of our 24-hour long smelly travel outfits, we threw on our orange tshirts, grabbed …

So, flying standby to Europe. Oh, and just days after the massive cloud of volcanic ash that grounded flights in Europe had began to clear. Mildly stressful? Nah, not at all. Everything worked out incredibly.

I had heard through other WestJet friends that getting upgraded while traveling stand by with other airlines, BA specifically, was a …

    Overpriced, noisy, smelt of bleach.
Good location, close to park and Van Gogh museum, and big supermarket.
Kitchen facilities to cook food, wi-fi didn't work in rooms.
    410€ for 5 nights.

Under-rated. Nothing to fault about the place

The hotel was very clean, cleaner than me and my friends expected. The bed sheets were all very white and I didn't feel dirty at all sleeping in them.

The rooms were very safe, there were 5 of us and we shared with 3 others in an 8-bed room. Each person had their own locker which they could set their own pin code to.

Locker was very loud when entering pin so that was annoying when we were trying not to wake people in late hours.

Breakfast came free with the hostel every morning between 7-10am. This included a nice fresh selection of sandwich material, fresh juices, coffee, tea, bread, jam, chocolate spread (all you can eat buffet of course).

Location was great, it was a 2 minute walk to the tram (number 5). From there we could head straight into centraal station which is the centre of Amsterdam.

Staff were polite and very helpful.
Best of all the price was really cheap, I would definitely stay there again.
