We left by private bus for Cuzco at 6.30am. Luckily the road was a lot less pot-holed than yesterday. The scenery gradually changed as we moved further inland - it became more lush and fertile the closer we got. At one point where we stopped for a toilet break, the scenery looked similar to the Southern lakes region of NZ, with tussock covering the hills down to the edge of a large lake. We started to see more and more villages as well. Most tourist buses drive straight from Arequipa to Cuzco...
Cusco, Peru danasvToday we started with a walking tour of Qosqo (as its known in Quechua, meaning naval of the earth). We saw an artisan market and visited a coca leaf product store. The guy from the coca store sat down to talk to our group for about half an hour. The talk wasn't so much about coca, as about his views on the world. He believes that the 'western model' is screwing up the world. It was quite interesting, but some in the group weren't too happy to be sitting there, getting preached at. The compan...
Cusco, Peru danasvWe got up at 4.15am so we could have breakfast, pack and get to the bus line for Macchu Pichu before 4.50am. We got the second 5.30m bus up to the entrance and were glad to see that the skies were clear. Bobby our tour guide took us for a tour around the main sites including temples, the living quarters of the Inca ruler and the stones that were used to tell the seasons. The sunlight was burning down over the site, creating fantastic plays of light and shadow. The symmetry and aesthetic eleme...
Cusco, Peru danasvAfter another delicious breakfast at the hotel, Sonja and I decided to get some girly pampering. Andina Spa was recommended to us, and it was close by, so we booked ourselves in for a facial, manicure and pedicure (45 soles, 15USD). A couple of hours later we came out feeling very girly and also very hungry. We went over to our local - Paddy's, the Irish bar - and I had a massive lasagne. We bought cake on the way home which looked fantastic but turned out to be tasteless. We got drenched as ...
Cusco, Peru danasv05/04 - We had an earlyish flight to Cusco which was delayed a couple of hours. Our leader Armando met us at the airport & took us to the hotel. Cusco is approx 3400 metres above sea level so it took us a little while to adjust to the altitude. Armando took us for a short walk around the town, it's a really nice little town. We just chilled out for the arvo before meeting up with the other group for our pre Inca Trail meeting. A few of us went out for a really bad dinner & called it a...
Cusco, Peru kristenjohn... medics joined her, things did not look good, we were standing on the side of the mountain being battered by all mother nature could throw at us, half the group had already gone ahead and we were stuck. After what seemed like forever we were told we could move on, the lady had the support of a medic and Jenny (our leader). I led our group of three down the mountain path, not having a clue where we were going but aiming for the forward group, just visible in ...
Ancascocha, Cusco, Peru jamjamWalking the streets of Cusco, Peru in October, you could be forgiven for thinking that the city's sole reason for existing is to allow large numbers of people to gather, march, proceed and otherwise celebrate the enormous number of saints whose images inhabit the various churches. As you turn a corner, you realize where the deep bass beat of drums is coming from as an orgy of color and sound greets your senses. The marching band, whose dress varies ...
Cusco, Cusco, Peru escapedtoperu... awe inspiring as everyone said it would be and although I have seen the famous Inca city many times in photos, actually being there was quite the experience. I could have done with about 100 less tourists but I guess you canīt have everything. I took the train back to Cusco as I didnīt want to repeat my night excursion and high tailed it to Tacna, the southern most city in Peru. So despite cheating death at least twice and not seeing nearly enough llamas Peru has been an amazing experience.
... is significant".
Both airfares and taxes are subject to change without notice until flight tickets are issued. However the difference in cost from the base rate to the next level of fares is often double or even higher. Lan Peru is the largest airline in Peru with the greatest number of routes which has left agencies with little choice but to accept the new higher fares.
... drive up. Had to take the climb up very slowly since we could barely breathe due to the high altitude. The place is really cool. Itīs so high up, it has a breath-taking view (literally). There are a couple playful kitties and 2 dogs hanging outside all the time. We walked down to San Blas and the Plaza de Armas, and WOW. This is the most beautiful place Iīve been so far. The town is ...
