This is our bed. There is no window except a small opening on the ceiling but thatīs quiet and this is our priority number 1

Our Inka Lodge hostel room
Lima, Peru
This is our first hostel. The first night was very quiet and I can fully appreciate that so even though it is not so cheap (35US$) we will go for a second night

Finally the D-Day has arrived, our 3-month backpacking trip has officially started. We got up at 6h30 and arrived at Schiphol a bit before 8h00 where we met my dear friend Mev who arrived (almost) on time which is a performance in itself. After a short period, Mev waved us goodbye and we crossed the customs (Mev I just want to say it was good to ...

Somewhere of Anywhere - Lima
Jul 19, 2008

Well that was a weird experience. It is funny how your perceptions change so quickly. A month ago the hectic and noisy disorganisation of Ecuadorian buses and bus stations were disconcerting. Now I find that the rigid, organised formal nature of air transportatin is overwhelming. Stand here, queue here, pay your tax here, very odd. Anyhow enough...

Cruzing to Lima
Mar 25, 2008

Arrived here via the super luxurious Cruz del Sur. We nearly forgot that we were on a bus, not a business class flight. Unfortunately hostel check in time is 1pm :( 4 hours to go.... tired and stinking. And Rob lost his credit card in Piura. bleah.

A quick stop in Lima
Jul 20, 2008

We had a great flight to Lima (no cheeky upgrades this time) and have done a far bit since we arrived in Peru. Whilst at the airport in Ecuador we saw some members of the Ecuador Olympic team, we saw 5, so either they are sending a very small team or they are meeting up with others later! They seemed to be having a great time and were being inte...

We Arrived Safely!
Sep 19, 2007 (2 photos)

Hello everyone! We are safely in Lima at the Inka Lodge which seems like a fine place to start our adventure. We will be here in Lima just for a couple nights and then it's off to Cuzco. The plane ride was long but I think Darryl has now broken all possible records on Brain Age. Everything went smoothly at the airport despite being the only peop...

The Night Bus...
Jul 3, 2008 (20 photos)

Well well, our first night bus experience to the most dangerous city in the world (what some say anyway). We travelled with Cruz del Sur which is supposed to be a pretty good experience. Seats almost fully recline with loads of leg room, meals, movies, hostess.....and it really was great! Bus left 11pm the previous night from Trujillo and we arr...

Lima
Jul 11, 2008 (5 photos)

Lima, you hate it or you love it. This is the impression we had during our trip talking to people about this grey city in the middle of Peru. As usual, we arrived at Lima at 6am in the morning after the whole night in the bus. After leaving the bag packs at the hostel in the Miraflores area, we walked around and we were very happy to find McDonn...

Goodbye South America
Apr 20, 2006 (17 photos)

After a heavy night in Pisco, where huge amounts of Pisco (alcoholic drink tasting like fermented Llama dung but ridiculously cheap) were being consumed as well as Quinn hogging the karaoke singing Eagles and Bryan Adams, we set off to our final destination Lima. Before we hit the capital city we stopped at a small fishing village where we were ...

Dia Dos
Jul 2, 2008

We are staying in Miraflores, the nicest area of Lima, and it's clear that the district stands apart from the rest. The people dress well and cars are bustling on every street. Today, we walked down to a mall that's built into the cliffs alongside the Pacific coast and it was beautiful. There were about ten paragliders floating around on the coa...

Arriving to Peru
Nov 10, 2006

Hi everyone, We arrived safely to Peru this morning at 5 am (5 hours flight from Miami), we left Boston at 6 pm (after last minute packing and very bad traffic and a lot of stress, thanks Yasser for driving us) and were in the miami airport for 2 hours...the flight was one of the worst in my life since we had annoying neighbours, like a Japanese...
