Finally the D-Day has arrived, our 3-month backpacking trip has officially started. We got up at 6h30 and arrived at Schiphol a bit before 8h00 where we met my dear friend Mev who arrived (almost) on time which is a performance in itself. After a short period, Mev waved us goodbye and we crossed the customs (Mev I just want to say it was good to see you there). We got lucky and got an economy seat each. Why lucky? Well, due to a windy weather lots of flights got delayed and the passengers who m...
Lima, Peru dmf2007This has been quite an unforgettable day and I wish I could upload our pics of Central Lima but for the moment due to techical reasons I caaaan't but will try later on. Nastaja is calling me now and wants some company so off I go. Seeee you around. ****************** WHAT REALLY HAPPENED OUR FIRST DAY IN LIMA ******************** It is now the 22nd of February 2008 and we are in Santiago de Chile since yesterday evening. We have decided to post what really happened during our very first day v...
Lima, Peru dmf2007We slept one night in the Hotel Garcilaso #2 and enjoyed our 5th straight night without hearing a single noise (the first 4 were in the Inka Lodge hostel in Lima). That´s kind of amazing considering the amount of travelers there are in such places and the quality of the walls' isolation. We spent the day exploring Cusco and we admittedly this is the most beautiful city we´ve seen ever. Check out the pics and see for yourself. The place is safe in the center but I wouldn´t wander in some stree...
Cuzco, Peru dmf2007Well that was a weird experience. It is funny how your perceptions change so quickly. A month ago the hectic and noisy disorganisation of Ecuadorian buses and bus stations were disconcerting. Now I find that the rigid, organised formal nature of air transportatin is overwhelming. Stand here, queue here, pay your tax here, very odd. Anyhow enough rambling. We took the flight (expensive as it was) from Guayaquil, Ecuador to Lima, Peru and turned what would have been a 24 hour bus journey was tu...
Lima, Peru domcreanArrived here via the super luxurious Cruz del Sur. We nearly forgot that we were on a bus, not a business class flight. Unfortunately hostel check in time is 1pm :( 4 hours to go.... tired and stinking. And Rob lost his credit card in Piura. bleah.
Lima, Peru feliciawongWe had a great flight to Lima (no cheeky upgrades this time) and have done a far bit since we arrived in Peru. Whilst at the airport in Ecuador we saw some members of the Ecuador Olympic team, we saw 5, so either they are sending a very small team or they are meeting up with others later! They seemed to be having a great time and were being interviewed for TV, we also saw them in the departure lounge and they were clearly not that bothered about their diet because they were eating huge slices...
Lima, Peru georgeharperHello everyone! We are safely in Lima at the Inka Lodge which seems like a fine place to start our adventure. We will be here in Lima just for a couple nights and then it's off to Cuzco. The plane ride was long but I think Darryl has now broken all possible records on Brain Age. Everything went smoothly at the airport despite being the only people to get the red arrow instead of the green..........and they claim it's random! This meant we both had to have our bags inspected which turned out t...
Lima, Peru kelseyraedowWell well, our first night bus experience to the most dangerous city in the world (what some say anyway). We travelled with Cruz del Sur which is supposed to be a pretty good experience. Seats almost fully recline with loads of leg room, meals, movies, hostess.....and it really was great! Bus left 11pm the previous night from Trujillo and we arrived in Lima at 7.30am the next morning. We both slept pretty well and all in all was a great time! We had heard very frightening stories about kidnap...
Lima, Peru livtajimLima, you hate it or you love it. This is the impression we had during our trip talking to people about this grey city in the middle of Peru. As usual, we arrived at Lima at 6am in the morning after the whole night in the bus. After leaving the bag packs at the hostel in the Miraflores area, we walked around and we were very happy to find McDonnalds, Starbucks and cinemas (believe me, after almost 2 months without this kind of "luxury", this is heaven). The Miraflores area was nice because yo...
Lima, Peru mariaclementAfter a heavy night in Pisco, where huge amounts of Pisco (alcoholic drink tasting like fermented Llama dung but ridiculously cheap) were being consumed as well as Quinn hogging the karaoke singing Eagles and Bryan Adams, we set off to our final destination Lima. Before we hit the capital city we stopped at a small fishing village where we were to catch a boat to the nearby islands. The islands dubbed 'the poor mans Galapagos' were an hour boat ride from the fishing village. The boat we caugh...
