Copan Ruinas Copan, Honduras, 504-651-46-20-
DAY 3 The following morning started with being picked up by a shuttle from our hostel at 4am, bound for Copan in Honduras. After naively being sold a more expensive trip on the assurance that the vehicle would have seatbelts, we learnt to expect little from road safety and to be sceptical of any promises from the tourist industry. The 6 hour journey provided us with a chance to survey the lush green and mountainous Guatemalan countryside, resultant from the Motagua fault line of the Caribbean...
Copan, Honduras kate_fisherCopan Ruinas is a town in Honduras just over the Guatemalan border. The Copan ruins are the supposedly the highlight but at $15 I chose not to see them. Instead walked the free natural trail. The town itself was fairly nice. Although when I arrived one of the hostels was closed due to no water and the other hostel I found only had a little left in the reserve tank. Apparently the town had been without water for the past three days. The reason: "the river is too high". Something to do with the...
Copan, Honduras magnerWe had a spooky departure in the middle of the night at 4 am from Antigua. On the way to Honduras we passed quite a view DOLE Trucks who bring Bananas from Guatemala and Honduras to all over the world. The minivan driver managed to play no latin songs at all, we had "topgun and dirty dancing songs..." for about 5-6 hours. At the Border we could change the remaining quetzal money to limpiras but we didn't (remember the story at the belizian border, yes we got wiser). The crossing went smooth a...
Copán, Honduras xjassx... was rather envious of our breakfasts at Via Via as he had gone to another place closer to the square for a granola and fruit breakfast that had cost twice the price of ours! Still he managed to get a few bites in from me.
12pm and we were packing our stuff into a shuttle bus, pleased to find that Sal and Stu, our Aussie friends from Utila, were on the same shuttle to Antigua. Looked like it wouldnt be such a bad ride after all with some extra company to keep us busy...
... adventure. I chose to take them to Puhlapunzak because of its incredible beauty and the extremely unforgettable experience of going through the waterfall into caves and back out to jump off big rock cliffs into deep pools of water. I went twice last year because it is truly one of my favorite places/experiences on Earth. $7 covers the entrance fee and a private guide. (Last year ...
Pena Blanca, Honduras claudiacfavre... took up most of the back seat. We let my mom sit with the vases and Kim, Paige, and I sat in the trunk with the door flung open. There was a metal bar held in place and we grasped it for dear life but we were all happy to have a ride! They drove us all the way into the town that we were staying in! Truly angels in disguise!
As a treat, we went to D&D's for a good ol' American dinner. We ate, drank, and were merry.
... 2 times a day, Monday through Thursday, with children 6 to 13 years. We have taught them greetings, colors, numbers, verbs of movement, and all this using songs and physical activity. And it works! It's quite pleasant, I must say, to hear them shout "red" when you show them a red index card or to laugh with them when Petra or I "order" them at full speed: "Everybody jump" Everybody walk ","Everybody crawl "," Sit down "," Stand up" to test their comprehension of ...
