Beach Bums
The road up the southern coast took us to Hokitika. This self-proclaimed heritage and cultural center of the west is first and foremost an artists' town. The area is plentiful with wood workers, stone cutters, and glass blowers. We got a taste of all three during our brief exploration of the quaint city.
Glancing at the local map, it didn …
Next Stop, Greymouth.
Morning everyone, well so far so good, I think we've survived without any new bites (Az is still recovering from being bitten to bits when he went fishing last week). We had to wait until mid-day for the bus so hung around the main house until it was time to leave. Today the weathers been really grey and pretty much raining non-stop. It was only a …
Blaketown!
We are hanging out in Greymouth today, awaiting our bus at 130pm, it is 1045 here so we have a bit of a wait. We are at a much faster computer and will update some random things we were unable to do due to that slow, slow computer. (Haha...do due)
Christchurch is a beautiful bustling city that we didn't get to explore that much, just due …
The Rugged West Coast

Clean spacious and overly friendly staff. Relaxing and very unique. The best hostel in New Zealand (judging from the 20 I've been in so far). It lacks many freebies like breakfast or wifi but has kayaks and bikes to make you enjoy your stay

It was love at first browse. We didn't even bother comparison shopping. Here we could chill for a few
days, enjoy home comforts, and weather the weather. Global Village
offered a cosy lounge with a fire lit by friendly staff everyday at
5pm, free bikes and kayaks, cheap spa and sauna, a decent book
exchange, a piano and guitar, and board games including life-size
backgammon!

Lovely facilities, calm and quiet atmosphere and an easy 20 minute walk to and from the town centre. Highly recommmended.
