Rue Allal ben Abdallah Casablanca, Morocco, 212-31-00-10
... there and hand it over to you! ewwwwwwwww Luckily we walked fast enough by it that I missed the murdering.

He then proceeded to take us to SO many shops. He would take us into a store and the owner would give us an entire tour and show us exactly how everything was made and then try to sell things. First we went to the rug store which had BEAUTIFUL rugs that would go for a lot in the US and were about 2000$ or less here but tooo expensive for us college kids ...
Casablanca, Morocco bridgetbomhack... 3,000 kids (at 7 different locations) and the teachers are paid very well (about 300 dirhams/$37 an hour). At this school, students are taught English at age 6, along with French, Arabic and Spanish. The President (Mehdi Hefiri) of the school met with us and gave us info via a translater. I attached a two-minute podcast of him speaking in French and the translations about the students ...

Casablanca, Morocco marchisaries... put in earthquake joints to prevent failure of the structure if an earthquake ever occurs since they are near a fault. The Mosque can hold 25,000 people comfortably with 20000 men praying on the ground floor and 5000 women praying in the mezzani sections on both sides. Every person is given one square meter ideally to pray in. They have had over 80,000 people come to pray in and around the Mosque on special holidays. Muslims always pray facing Mecca (in ...
Casablanca, Morocco claudiv... more like a developing country than the cosmopolitan hustling and bustling ways of Casablanca and Marrakech. It finally felt like I was really experiencing something new, underdevelopment much different than that of Africa - darker in a sense, less vibrant than Ghana or Benin. Although the people of the south were incredibly friendly, I always felt underdressed even while wearing shoes, jeans, a jacket, and a scarf over my head. Maybe I observe other cultures too much, and ...
Casablanca, Morocco liz23... used extensively for tourism are fundamentally more liberal than other towns, or whether this simply reflected the time of day.Our stopover in Marrakech was short; only about 45 minutes; before we knew it we were on the train to Casablanca. In our compartment we had a couple, and a mother and daughter, all from Agadir. The daughter noticed the Australian Flag on our backpacks, which lead to a brief conversation as she was a surfer. She had thought about ...
Casablanca, Morocco pgdavis... the city. In the city, we saw everything from very poor-looking shantys (albeit with satellite dishes on top) to the ritzy section of big houses (called California by the locals). Outside of the city, it was almost all agricultural with a lot of hay piles, donkeys, and sheep being shepherded. We saw donkey carts and donkeys being ridden whilst laden with items as well. There was A LOT of litter. Every once in while, you would see a small town ...
Casablanca, Morocco jklenk... which I am moving into tomorrow... I resorted to KFC chips and a McDonalds sprite in the end. Back to the hotel -- it was a really good sunset so I took some pics of the minaret of the huge mosque that I could see in the distance. I went back down to the basement and worked on my F/Book photos adding descriptions then it was back to the room to chillax with the book and the 8.30 movie...
Casablanca, Morocco chooklotto... morocco until they moved all their shipping to casablanca. So now it has become more of a tourist/fishing town that sells lots of fresh seafood and the city has an old walled in medina like most others in morocco. We stayed within the medina here though and spent time just wandering around and looking at shops and such. It was a comfortable place to walk and spend time and given more time we probably would have tried kite surfing because it looks like heaps of fun. TTFN
Casablanca, Morocco keetchadam... expensive so I just ended up having a Burger King. It was weird though, seems like people just don't mind that there aren't any chairs or tables, people just get their food, and in their suits, just walk away and eat on the move. Outch, that must be so uncomfortable! I just feel uneasy if I try to eat standing, but many also took their food with them in a take-away bag to eat back at the office.

Then it was time to head to Heathrow airport. At the time, I didn't ...
