    Besides the very interesting layout of the city, the fascinating buildings, etc I couldn't wait to leave the maze! It was cold and foggy and I was tired after getting myself lost for 2 hours looking for my hostel on the main land. It's great for the avoid shopper who doesn't mind high prices!     ... finally open and we visited St John the Beheaded. (S. Giovanni Decollata.) 10thc with two 11th, 12th or 13thc frescoes (guidebooks disagree) rediscovered in the 1900's (one in the 1990's!) and the oldest frescoes in Venice.     ... gondola ride. We took off our shoes and had a wonderful ride in the evening light of Venice in summertime. The next day we tried something I had never done before in this my fourth trip to Venice, asked the hotel to get us a free taxi ride to Murano.
