Having thoroughly enjoyed our Panache filled detour back to Meknes, we popped ourselves on the train again to make our way to the coastal city, Casablanca. The main calling card that made us decide this might be as worthwhile visit afterall, was tha fact that Casa houses the Hassan II Mosque - the only mosque in Morocco that non muslims can get into. Far from the modest structures that don every city and village, the Hassan II is the second largest in the world only to Masjid al-Haram in Mecc...
Casablanca, Morocco nybridge... that we really didn’t know where the train station was and took a cab. The dirham (Moroccan currency) is about 8 dirhams=1$. None of us had any dirhams for the cab driver, but he gladly took 2 dollar bills. We got on the train to Fez and it ended up taking 5 hours. It was the slowest moving train with so many stops. We got really lucky and ended up sitting next to a nice man who told us a lot about Fez. He said we needed to get a travel guide that we would ...
Casablanca, Morocco bridgetbomhackLand Ho!!!!! I see land !!! Am I really in Morocco. I am so excited !!! I hope Zaid made the trip! Long lines through customs, luggage claim then final check. Where are you? Gloria here I am!! Zaid is here and waiting for me to ...
Casablanca, Morocco gloshiv... may ask why I waited so long to leave. Simple, so that I wouldnt escalate things and waited it out for a good time to make my break. And there is a 99 percent chance he was just an eccentric old guy who wanted some company. But I wasnt taking my chances with that 1 percent. So thats that, my final story. I had to run all the way down to the internet cafe just to get it down before I went to bed. You are welcome.
Casablanca, Morocco mightyseven... it was in my head), and watched; watched the interworkings of the cafe and narwhales swimming gayly. when i got my tea, i caught a great wiff of mint -- peppermint, perfect! just what the body needs after a long day with monkies, snake-charmers and hard-boiled eggs. how perfect? i had no idea. i took a sip of the tea, and i felt like i knew what those Narwhales were feeling, with their cute little Narwhale horns, and cute little Narwhale smiles. this tea was laced with a ...
Casablanca, Morocco troseen... my dad. No wonder he put me through French immersion - the cheap sucker. When we left Kenitra we stopped at yet more relatives for more Moroccan tea (my most favourite drink in Morocco - green tea with fresh mint leaves, and so much sugar that there is now a huge diabetes problem in the country - you can only imagine), and the women in the family presented me with a lovely Moroccan dress and necklace. On from Kenitra and Casablanca, Dad and I picked up a driver and a rental ...
Casablanca, Morocco liz23... Our breakfast was again delicious, although a little hurried because we had a bus to catch at 09:15.Interestingly the bus loading procedure this time around was a little different; there seemed to be a bit of a mix of allocated seating and not. We were fortunate to have a couple of English speakers who were happy to trade seats with us as we were boarded and in position several minutes prior to them. The trip back to Marrakech is along the same ...
Casablanca, Morocco pgdavis... to the city. It is a bit of an old train, but off we go. Seems a long way, go past slums, shanty towns, dusty fields with goats, then get into the nicer suburbs. The train stops somewhere, and we have to change. The Marrakesh express comes through, about 30 minutes late. We get on another train to the Port, not sure where we are going, but the line terminates there. We get off the train, lots of tiny taxis. We get in one, and go for a mad drive ...
Casablanca, Morocco mariannegardner... It was chicken and olives and so so good. A few of us got into a cab and went to go have a beer at Rick's Cafe (made famous by the movie Casablanca) but a group had book the entire place out. We started walking back along the port road and went for deserts at Cafe Maure... We then caught a cab back to the hotel at around 10.30 .... will be checking out the Hassan II mosque and then the capital Rabat tomorrow..!
Casablanca, Morocco chooklotto... green forests and poppie fields we slowly entered the dessert. The dessert was rocky and hot and desolate looking but then we arrived at the edge of the sahara dessert. It was orange and smooth and incredibly beautiful! The sky was blue and we rode our camels through the sand to our dessert camp. we watched the sun set in the sandy hills. We ate good tagine and watched the sky turn into stars. It was the most enchanting sky I've ever seen. Everyone saw a ...
