Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night with something on your mind, to make you decide to do something about it. We haven't refuelled now for about three weeks and so I was suddenly worried about finding a refuelling centre. These days they are nowhere as prevalent as they apparently once were, and the previous owner had developed a system of filling plastic gerry cans and storing them ...

Today we decide to borrow the Chateau bikes and take a tour. We head down to the River Meuse, which is quite downhill, and take a ride along the river. It's a beautiful day. It is another damp cold day although it is not raining or freezing. We miss double glazing on days like this as our windows get full of condensation. Both of us are getting very desperate for a shower. Our immersion heater trips the electric and we obviously can't run our engine so we have no means of getting hot water other than by kettle. We are on a Town quay with no other facilities other than water ...

... the problem he said it all pointed to the pump not working to full capacity. John went on to the tourism shop/capitainerie to pay for last night and tonight and find out if they know of a mechanic - which they did. The lady phoned him and said he was local with 24 years experience and working with diesel engines both commercial and marine, so John booked him to come between 2 – 4pm today. He did not charge inflated rates ...
