Chacra 202 Lote 29 Gaiman, Province of Chubut, Patagonia, Argentina, 9105, 54-0-2965-491292-
... window fixed and then drove the 17 kms back to the town of Gaiman and the campsite (S43.17.26.97 W65.29.16.13). Here we had our third item for the day, whilst trying to get past the vehicles partly blocking the entrance Mike managed to hit a gas meter that stuck out of the ground next to the entrance. All we heard was the gas escaping, which at first we thought was a puncture, luckily we were at the best place for it if it had to happen. The campsite is run by the ...
Gaiman, Patagonia, Argentina mikeandmary... from 1800 or so. I had a famous Welsh tea in one of the Casa de te houses for 35 ARS. I also had a visit to the park of recycling for 10 ARS. The city is dead so dont expect to see any tourist there. I would recommend the recycle park and the Welsh tea where you get fed with tons of sweat. I found couple of Germans who will be driving to Punta Tombo tomorrow and I will share the rental with them. I guess I was lucky to find them otherwise the price for the tour is around 170 ARS.
Trelew, Argentina canadiansmiley... you could see all the kids names. Amusing as the names were Jose, Isabella, Juan, Enrique etc. After eating a weeks calories in one sitting we wandered around till we found the settlers chapel which was a little out of town and looked very simple.Looks like those original settlers must have had it tough given the harsh environment, however they managed to make it work with some clever irrigation techniques.
Gaiman, Patagonia, Argentina kingsandems... tell me is that an expression, why would you shake a stick at a lot of things? How does that help? And why cant you shake a stick at just a few of something, particularly if its something really big, like say a dinosaur. See how I skillfully brought ...
Trelew, Argentina cezzah... it couldnt be Wales...nice logic! They took the sign off...so sorry for anyone in the future - its no longer there. In the afternoon we took a bus to Gaiman (17kms) to visit another Museum and try the recommended Welsh Tea. Check the picture on the bus...they really pack the local buses here, so if you dont arrive early you will probably stand most of the trip...squashed most surely. Buses of 44 capacity take about 60 or more. Anyway, apart from the excellent ...
Gaiman, Argentina veromarcos...
Trelew, Argentina casenannelieke... until we left almost two hours later. We got over 100 pictures between us, but we will try to post the ones that show them the best. Pictures cannot explain how neat it was to walk among these things. They just amble along on the path right in front of you, waddling from side to side as if you are just another penguin. A couple of times, when I would bend down and try to get close enough for a good photo of a parent and their baby (both mother and father take turns watching the ...
Trelew, Argentina epijuarezThis is one of the Welsh towns here along with Trelew so we thought we'd visit them for the day. We caught a couple of local buses and spent a few hours exploring them. We visited a couple of famous welsh tea rooms and one of the ones we visited was the one Princess Diana went to in 1995!! However, they don't just serve a cup of tea you have to have a full on ...
Gaiman, Argentina alexandlucy... adding to it. Now it´s in the guiness book of records as the largest recycled rubbish park in the world. Amazing what you can do with it. There was a few articles on Alfonso who was 87 last year - we weren´t quite sure if he was still alive though. We later went to a small museum which has a lot of history about the first Welsh settlers, which was interesting. There´s a small hill in Gaiman, with a railway tunnel through it - The Bryn Gwyn tunnel. It´s not a big hill, and I don ...
Gaiman, Argentina jonlizzTrelew is the largest town in the Chubut valley and has some 90,000 inhabitants. Its only a 1 hour from Puerto Madryn but stepping off the bus feels like entering a new area. Unlike the dry and arrid landscapes of Puerto Madryn, Trelew is irrigated by the Rio Chubut. Its warm and sunny and I can understand how after the Welsh arrived in Puerto Madryn they soon moved down to the lush and green valley to make this place home. There is still lots of evidence ...
