Cienfuegos 151 Santiago, Chile, 56-2-671-8532
THINGS WE LEARNED: You must log into bank machines as a "foreigner" to get cash...we wasted a good 20 frantic minutes on that one! INTERESTING FACT: Chile stretches 4300km long, and includes the aridest desert in the world, and a massive glacier. The North Star, a with many others, actually consists of two stars, but it is only visible as one to the naked eye. TYPICAL IN THIS REGION: Empanadas (meat or cheese filled pastries), completos (hot dogs with mayo and guacamole), Pisco (liquor made i...
Santiago, Chile chadsteph¡Buenos Dias todos! Bienvenidos a Santiago de Chile. Hoy este Viernes 03 Noviembre. Arrived at 8am yesterday in the bus station after two days on the bus from Punta Arenas in the south. Had to go into Argentina again (more stamps in the passport) because there is no way through the icefield at the bottom of Chile. Came in via Bariloche (main ski resort in Argentina) and found the HI place on Cienfuegos (100 fires?) street. Hostel good for the money, plenty to do here including a central marke...
Santiago, Chile daz_outHaving crossed the international date line on my way from Auckland into Santiago, I am now officially one day younger, the other strange thing that happened during this temporal distortion is that Portsmouth won the FA Cup. Santiago nestles at the foot of the Andes and is surrounded by snow tipped Andean peaks. This should make it scenic but the heavy city smog means that clear blue days are few and far between. In fact the overwhelming colour of the city is dull grey. The central area just o...
Santiago, Chile kevgregoryThe plane ride was interesting it involved three stops at different airports but still not bad at all. The food was not quite BA standards but I got a seat by the exit and had a ton of leg room. I was sat next to a father and son from England so had someone easy to talk to. At the first stop I had to pass through customs this was relatively easy but involved some form filling in. Unfortunately I got caught trying to smuggle oranges (they were part of my lunch, I would have already eaten them ...
Santiago, Chile martin84My long flight from Auckland to Santiago was uninteresting apart from one thing. It took off on March 27th at 5:25pm and landed on March 27th at 12:40pm. I took a taxi from the airport to the youth hostel and tried to figure out what time it felt like. I was sharing the taxi with Rose and Amber, two Kiwi architects, and I decided to go to the same hostel as it sounded pretty good. It was only slightly cheaper than what I´d been paying in New Zealand but clean and fairly central. I went for my...
Santiago, Chile mrjoe I am in Chile, a very long and geographically slim country in South America. I Chicago on a 13 hour treck to South America. I am here to teach English as a Second Language. I arrived in Santiago and stayed in a Hostel for about 7 days. I learned a lot in orientation and was able to tour the city. There is a lot of graffiti, which is common of most big cities, and a beautiful view of the Andes Mountains.
I left On Friday June 19th I left by bus to Lianares to meet my Host family. There...
I bid farewell to my last remaining Kiwi bus friends and headed to Auckland Airport for the next leg of my adventure. On my way to the airport at about 1.30pm, I could say that this time today, I would be in Santiago, Chile. You read that right. I flew 11 hours, and the time went back 15 hours or something similar. So I left NZ at 5ish pm on Sunday afternoon and arrived about 12/1pm on Sunday afternoon. It took between 2 and 3 days to fully recover I think. I watched the original Italian Job ...
Santiago, Chile samcohen1987Day 189 Saturday 07/05/05 Easter Island - Santiago We packed and Stewart lazed about the hostel watching the bags while Gillian headed to check the emails. The hostel dropped us at the airport and we checked in, waited then had a 4.5 hour flight to Santiago. They managed to mess up the veggie meal request so Stewart had to make do with wilted salad and fruit. Not far from landing the plane hit some turbulence which was the worst that either of us has ever experienced. We landed followed by a ...
Santiago, Chile skcoll
... seen beforehand. I sat in her shadow for a while, enjoying the cool breeze ... ahh ... a much lovelier spot than the inside of those teleferico death traps! From here, you could descend via a funicular down to Terraza Bellavista and the zoo, but it was too hot today ... instead, I headed back to the hotel to either use the tiny little pool there, or grab my swimsuit and head back to the pool at Estacion Tupahue. Back on the teleferico ...
