Mole, Mole, Mole...and Mezcals

We were heading to our next destination Oaxaca the home of Mole & Mezcals. Subash had learnt his lesson from the last overnight bus so he got a more expensive bus with more room to sleep. We watched X-men first class before heading to sleep. I thought the last bus ride was eventful but this would take the cake. The bus was constantly being …

What LP says: Welcome to one of Mexico’s most beautiful and vibrant cities. A colonial city with a lovely, tree-shaded central square, El Zócalo, Oaxaca is the heart of a region whose highly creative populace produces the country’s finest range of crafts and some of its most exciting contemporary art. Artists and artisans alike are …

A letter to Oaxaca

A travel blog entry by houston

Dear Oaxaca,

Your strets are cramped.
Your museums are tiny.
Your people, while not openly rude, are definitely not as friendly as Mexico City or Puerto Escondido.
You try to rip off tourists, and you dont do it well enough to not get called out.
Your Mole Negro, which is supposed to be world famous, was cold and bland, ive …

Paulina Youth Hostel... My home away from home.

I have stayed at Paulina Youth Hostel in Oaxaca, Mexico at least 5 times, I'm sure. It was the first place I stayed there and the best. It is large and incredibly clean for a hostel. It's a great place to meet people in the dorms but, If you want to go the personal route, I don't find the private rooms to be very expensive at all. The service is excellent. The staff are there 24/7 and you can check in in the middle of the night. It's close to the zocalo and some really great restaurants like Alex's. But the free breakfast is an insanely good spread. There's also a waterfall and a little garden where hippie travellers are usually picnicing and doing yoga. And that comforts me.
