... into it. However, when I walked in the door, the receptionist spoke Zero English and I had to fumble my way through a spanglish conversation with her, to discover my bed would be ready in a couple of hours. The place was nice, colonial style with open courtyard, in house restaurant (food really good) and good common areas.
After some sleep, I headed out into the streets of Bogota. The central area of the city is quite ...
... back Sunday. On the way back we found a supermarket, bought some basics, and all our breakfast needs and returned to the hostel.
The hostel was split into 3 separate lodgings in a narrow street, which was between La Candaleria, an old colonial and attractive part of the city albeit very dirty in places and the Egiptian neighborhood which is known to be a notoriously bad neighborhood and we were on several occasions told, in no uncertain terms, to avoid ...
... the plaza there were also many people cycling and rollerblading. At this point, I still did not know it was a bank holiday and I found it exceptionally odd but pleasant activity for a Monday. I then decided to indulge in a wander about, venturing down the busy streets, taking in all the energy and life. There were some fantastically bad street performers- One man stood with a boom box and sang out popular songs off a song list in a less than stellar singing voice. There ...
Bogota, Colombia katertot1978... after a couple of weeks in El Centro. It´s not as hippy and edgy as the dirty white tenement building I was before (i.e, severe lack of beggers) but being able to fearlessly walk to the shop alone at 7 p.m is a bonus that should not be undersestimated. There are also a good few unis around here, which combined with being the gay district and having a street dedicated purely to everything that is def leppard around the corner, means that ...
Bogota, Colombia lisaviro1981... only in 1995. The higher altitude is immediately noticable, having had to stick on my jacket for the first time since Christmas Day in San Cristobal de las Casas. Another highlight was the Museo del Oro, the largest collection of pre-Hispanic gold in the world.
Bogota, Colombia paulhand33... found the old town (La Candelaria) and fed the millions of birds in Plaza de Bolivar. After a quick nap, we went out with Jennifer, our Colombian friend who took us on a tour of her favourite bars in the city. First we went for some more arepas (this time we splashed out and got them "con todo" ...with everything not just cheese!). First we went to a bar called Coffee and Dreams where we had coffee ...
Bogota, Colombia jev... The church in the picture is Monserrate. I will be heading on to the coffee region on Sunday night, a day earlier than planned as more than one of the people I met yesterday raved about Salento so I decided I had to fit in to my schedule. Apparently they have palm trees that break through the clouds, so you see tree, clouds, then more tree. Certainly sounds like it might be worth a look. I'll be back again soon with more updates, Dave
Bogota, Colombia mcguinnessdave... in a pretty cool hostel, the Cranky Croc, run by an Aussie called Andy who is very helpful for local knowledge. It's pretty spacious, it's clean and has good facilities. We have had a good walk around the area, in between the rain and the Plaza Simon Bolivar, the heart of the old town is pretty nice. Christmas decorations light up the historic buildings that surround the square and there must be 100 white luminous Christmas trees in the centre of the square, with a ...

Buses pass by across the street from the apartment building, so it won't be hard for you to take a ride. The Apartment in Bogota is completely furnished. The flat and accommodation is your best choice for a clean and furnished place to stay and relax while in the capital city Bogota. Its especially a ...
