... was down and I was awake, so Steven and I made our way down to the second deck for a disappointing breakfast of extremely over salted eggs, bread (which I didn't eat as I have pretty much cut it out of my diet), unripe watermelon, and extremely over-sugared coffee. Brazil is interesting with coffee. They grow awesome coffee, but for every 1 part coffee they pre-sugar it with 1 part sugar so you can't even taste the coffee anymore. It's gross but I felt I needed it today. After breakfast ...

... took up position outside the Teatro Amazonas to watch the game on the big screen. After four games we had finally given in and bought the shirt to help blend in (apart from Sophie's hair). Again the street beers were flowing and meat (of dubious origin) on a stick was soaking them up. Brilliant atmosphere with Brazil scraping through against a below-par Colombian team.

When I checked in at the Park Suites Manaus at Avenida Coronel Teixeira, 1320, A, Ponta Negra, I had an interesting moment - I was given room 711 and to my surprise there were clothes on the bed and it appeared whoever was the occupant was in the shower. I hastily returned to reception, where ...

The hostel was fine (read: cheap), though we do get nice beds and breakfast the next morning, which is pretty sweet. Not to mention the guy at the front desk was really nice and helpful. And a complete badass!! He was CYCLING (not with a motorycycle, but a real, honest-to-God bike) through South America. Kind of puts SF hipsters and their obnoxious fixies in perspective, am I right?
