      Get in By plane

The airport is some 15 km by road from the city centre. A taxi will set you back 58 reais (fixed price).

Manaus is about 2200 km from São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro which takes about four hours by air. From North America, it's much faster if you go direct without backtracking via SP or Rio. From Europe, you first have to go North/Central America (which is too far west) or SP/Rio (too ...

Day 48: River Boat to Manaus and Manaus

... I can rock the hammock. I could tell other people on the boat were extremely seriously jealous.... Really exciting stuff going on on this boat. I think I'm going a little crazy. And I'm realizing just how boring the next boat (3 times as long as this one) is going to be. But looking at a map you can see the size of the river and the forest that Manaus is situated in, and it doesn't take much to get away from the concrete jungle and into the real thing.

... drops-off all the time. I suppose the network is overwhelmed since everyone is always busy on whatsapp, email or surfing the net.

The other reason why I decided to stay in was that Brazil were playing against Mexico in Fortaleza at 16H00 local time. The roads were gridlocked and the FIFA fan fest was bursting to the seams. Wherever, one looked you could only see the yellow Brazilian shirts and flags ...

      WE GOT OUT OF COLUMBIA

A travel blog entry by dewarsurfers on May 23, 2014

In case you are concerned, worried or disappointed, we did get out of Columbia. Caught our flight Manaus. This place is all on its own with only airport or boat to access the rest of Brazil. It was nowhere until big car companies came and set up production because of the availability of rubber. If you are interested, you can read up on it, I will give you the 'fluff'. Riches beyond wildest dreams from rubber ...
