Fantastic hostel. Beautifully decorated, extremely clean. The staff are super nice and the breakfast is the best we've had so far in south america. Great location too. Highly recommended!

Fantastic hostel, one of the nicest we stayed at in South America. We stayed in the pool house and enjoyed how quiet it was (except for a car alarm one night). Plenty of common areas for lounging. Staff was fantastic! Helped us set up two day tours of wineries. Location is very good, not far from center of the city or the bus station. We would gladly stay here again.

Lovely hostel with great owners! The asado nights are a real treat. Free wine in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday. It`s also a wonderful place to meet people and the staff go out of their way to help you with anything you please. I did the Lao hostel winetour for 410 pesos. Would highly recommend this tour if you like wines. The six course lunch was to die for!
      Highly recommended hostel!

This was/is the best hostel we've ever stayed in anywhere in the world! The hostel has loads of space, clean rooms, great breakfasts and free wine each night. The owner, Mike and his staff are worth the trip to Mendoza alone. Great, friendly service and personal recommendations that made our trip awesome. Can't rate this place higly enough!!

★Mendoza in a nutshell★A very pretty, lively little town with good food and even better wine. The people take their siesta very seriously meaning everything comes to a standstill between 1pm and 5pm every day. The rural parts of the city are scattered with wineries and vineyards and have the andes as a dramatic backdrop.

At last count we have stayed at 18 hostels, living the true backpacker's life. Therefore we feel qualified enough to state our expectations of a good hostel. The list below is in order of priority / necessity. I know the retort from readers will be, 'why don't you just check into a hotel?'... Well, that wouldn't be backpacking then! My list:

They say that you can't go back. This is something we also believe, and even when we have gone back to places we don't try to repeat the experience.....until now.

Our first night in Mendoza and we returned to what was one of our highlights from our last trip. The fanciest restaurant in town - Azafran - doesn't have a wine list. If you …

After checking into our hostel in Mendoza, we walked around the city. It made a better impression on us than BA did. It was much cleaner and there wasn`t very much dog poop to dodge. Many of the streets are lined with trees, giving us much needed shade since the highs were near 30C during our visit. The city has a lovely pedestrian area with shops …

Mendoza - In the wine country

... Hostel Lao, a very chilled and cool hostel run by Mike from Derby, a top bloke who married a local girl and set up the place. We heard about the place from some Kiwi's we met in Bogota back in December and it was a very good tip. It has a small swimming pool and hammocks dotted around the garden to dose off the wine, they even provide free samples of the stuff every night, which is a really nice touch. Next stop Valparaiso, Chile.
