Craig and I headed off to Puebla the same day that everyone else from Hostel Amigo headed to Acapulco. We headed straight to an internet cafe because we didn't have a place to stay. We chose one that said it was a 5 minute walk from the Zocolo. This turned out to be about 30 minutes with our huge packs. Mexicans aren't too good at estimating time and distances. Anyway, once there we went back to the Zocolo for dinner and photos of the Catedral. The city is really great. It had a laid back fee...
Puebla, Mexico wyoming20... house and watched a few minutes of the Up With People DVD as only Edgardo and his daughter, Daniella, were able to come to the show. I said good-bye to his wonderful family as only Edgardo will be taking Ronja and I to the buses tomorrow morning. He will be bringing my host family book and recipes with him.
And his wife promised that, when I come back to Puebla (not if, when!), she'd show me how to make mole as the ingredients are only available in Mexico.

... activity this week. I became part of a village on Thursday, helping to raise not one child but more than 20 children. Thursday brought so many blessings :)
My community impact activity was to work at a kindergarten/elementary school. Myself, along with Sarah (CO), Yunjie (China), and Wei (China) took a bus to a nearby kindergarten/elementary school to teach small groups of children for 20 minutes per group. There were 6 groups total. Our curriculum ...
... style. And there are so many amazing monuments and statues to look at. One thing that I have noticed about this city is that almost all buildings have a cute little balcony, and each balcony is shaped differently. What a great place to have a morning coffee (if I liked coffee), watch the day begin and the city fill with life!
We stopped at El Fuerte de Guadalupe towards the end of the tour and it was a such a cool experience to actually walk on the grounds of a historical fort ...
... the mob. At Gate 1, the guard told us that the bus only picked up once every hour until past noon. Service at Gate 2 was every 15 minutes. At Gate 2, we flagged down a passing bus for 33 pesos each and were dropped off at Ines Verdes on the Metro line. Perfect! On our way to the hostel, we picked up ADO first class tickets for Puebla at the Ticketbus counter near the Plaza Nacional exit to the Metro Zocalo exit. The day was going smoothly, almost too smoothly until I found ...
Puebla, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico tipperooniePuebla is mostly famous for inventing mole poblano- a chocolate and chili sauce they pour over chicken, and for being a bastion of conservative values. The conservatism wasn´t that apparent in the Plazuela de los Sapos on Saturday night when several overexcited local students tried to show us how to salsa, but perhaps it´s more about the city´s ...
Puebla, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lisaviro1981... Lonely Planet describes, but it's a shame there prices are 100 peso out. The current rates are 350 + 450 peso for 1 or 2 persons and not the 260 + 350 that Lonely Planet states. A room with 2 beds you're looking at 570 peso for 2 persons. At the end of the day, the rooms are simple and well overpriced especially when you see what else is around.
At the top end Puebla offers some fine boutique accommodation.

Puebla, Mexico asci... for the Aztecs. That year the Aztecs had predicted a god would be arriving to their land. Quite coincidentally the God had the same complexion as Cortes and a beard. So when Cortes arrived they assumed he was the God. Unfortunately for them he was a very ambitous and ruthless Spanish General and made alliances with their enemies (which he conquered later)to overthrow them. One story goes he was so determined to conquer these Indian cultures, after disembarking, he had the ships ...
