Deloqui 636 Ushuaia, Province of Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia, Argentina, 54-2901-43-4099
Ushuaia (pronounced Usuaia) is around 55 degrees south and is the most southerly city in the world (although there is a small town called Puerto Williams about 20kms away across the Beagle Channel on Navarino Island in Chile). It is on the island of Tierra del Fuego and the inhabitants pride themselves in calling it the end of the world. It's a lively town of around 100,000 and has a spectacular setting. It's set on the Beagle Channel, named after the ship that Charles Darwin sailed on during...
Ushuaia, Argentina everardtAfter avoiding to spend a third night in Rio Gallegos I arrived in the lovely town of Ushuaia in a tiny hostel named Cruz del Sur. This hostel is owned by an Italian world traveller who knows how to design a hostel. Tiny, comfortable, great social place and lots of cool people who loved to chat (and who I swapped my ´History of Love´ book with ´Freakanomics´). So very very unlike me, I decided to do a couple of hikes. After hike no.1 which I thought was pretty hard (apparantly easyyy to the m...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina nataschab A beautiful Place. We arrived at 10 pm and it was pissin. Ended up stayin in the same room as Eefke and William randomly.
Went 2 the glacier but the ski lift was getting fixed so walked up the slope but the snow was to deep to walk to the glacier.
Mosato, a japanese guy from the hostel gave us a song on his mini guitar.
Went for a trek.
Went on the ****. Ended up in a Gentlemans club with an arrogant english guy. When we got in he told me he would translate if I wa...
Ushuaia is lovely. A total tourist town but it sort of reminds me of ski towns in Europe. I have been staying in Cruz del Sur hostel, which is small and cosy. A couple of Italian guys from Puerto Madryn were staying there so we decided to meet up with them too. The place is basic, but has a very homely feel to it. Every day people come and go, so have met a load of new people....some very nice, some annoying. There was this one high pitched squeeky American girl. By accident I managed to conv...
Ushuaia, Argentina zargarf
... the vegetation, the weather, etc... He told us we were very lucky on the weather since it was blue skies and no wind. He said that only happens about 10 days out of the year. Yay for us!

The one major thing we missed out on were the penguins, but unfortunately they are not in season at the moment. However, the cormorants look an awful lot like penguins, so we sort of saw some penguins. Kind of. Maybe.

The cruise was about 4 hours. After that we ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina heinlisenka... was discovered by the same boat and captain that would return several years later with Darwin on board. The town was the home to a penal colony for many years, and the old prison has been converted to a first rate museum. The local indigenous tribes were also amazing. Along the shore were the Yamana, canoe fishermen. They had huge arms and short legs, and generally ran around naked and swam freely in the frigid ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina bocalee... I will scream. The food on the flight was *****, choice of cheese sandwich or cheese sandwich. You all know I like a little bit of cheese but enough is enough when its served morning noon and night. Are back packs are about 24 hours behind us and by the time we get back from our hike through the national park they should be here. Failing that we are to the IRISH pub to get ******.
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina markrobson... it's around 5 degrees with Antarctic winds adding some further chill. We pass a place called Lago Azul (Blue Lagoon), and I giggle to think of a young Argentine Brooke Shields shivering away wearing nothing more than a fig leaf and 2 shells with cameras rolling. Cross the border into Chile and any fears we had of complicated border crossings are put to bed. The officials on both sides are super helpful and before long we are in Chile with photos to prove it and then a 130 ...
